Dante's Story

Dante here, the happiest dog ever reporting for duty. I am a youthful five-year-old with a mysterious past. Even though my rescue journey began as a stray, my foster tells me I have incredible recall skills. I know basic commands like “come” “sit” “down” and “stay” and respond well to praise. And I’m learning other things, like “kennel.” Treats help me tremendously, and I overhear humans say being treat-motivated works great for training. Umm, treat motivated, party of one here!

I enjoy casual walks, and I’m well-behaved on a leash. I don’t pull and go at the pace of my human. I’m curious and nonreactive in all settings. My favorite way to exercise is by running in the yard, especially playing fetch (still learning, though). My human brings me to all sorts of places. Who knew sitting still in the car and taking in all the attractions from the passenger or backseat would result in so much praise. Did I mention that I respond well to praise? Who doesn’t, am I right?!

I am just a really happy, playful, floppy, and affectionate dog. I’d fit in well with a lot of different types of people. I’ve met and get along with humans of all sizes. During my time at the shelter, of all places, I played well with all kinds and sizes of dogs. Not to brag, but I quickly became a fan favorite among staff and volunteers. What can I say, humans are the best, especially at cuddling! I don’t think there’s a better way to spend downtime than to cuddle up against (or on) a human. I have a tendency to show my affection with nibbles. My foster tells me that my pressure is good (never biting), but that I need to know when to dial it down. I’m working on it. I’m just so happy though!

I heard a good friend of mine from the shelter recently found her furever home, and it got me thinking. I’m ready to find my furever home, too. I have so much love and happiness to spread.

Love love love,

Dante
