Daniel's Story

Meet Daniel!

Daniel is a stunning 2-year-old, 46-pound black tri Australian Shepherd with a tail and the most soulful brown eyes you've ever seen.

Daniel came to ARMA from the Charles County Animal Shelter after being picked up as a stray. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and receives heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives.

As we've gotten to know Daniel, we've slowly peeled back the layers of his personality, and what we've discovered is an absolute gem. Daniel is sweet, gentle, intelligent, and calm, with not a single mean bone in his body. His tail is almost always wagging, and his favorite place is wherever his people are.

This handsome boy is happiest simply being part of everyday life. He loves following his people around the yard, spending time with his humans, and being included in whatever is happening. Daniel enjoys quiet walks and walks nicely on leash, taking time to explore the world around him.

Daniel is a very smart boy who loves learning and has excellent manners. He knows basic commands, including sit, stay, and come. He also has some wonderful routines—he will sit and wait patiently at the door when its time to go outside, and when he comes back in, he heads right to his rug and waits for his paws to be dried. He also sits and waits politely for his meals to be placed before enjoying them.

Daniel is housebroken, crate trained, and remarkably quiet, although he will politely remind you when dinner time has arrived. He enjoys stuffed Kongs, chew bones, lick mats, treats, and never says no to a bedtime snack. He also has a playful side and loves a good case of zoomies when the mood strikes!

Daniel gets along well with other dogs, although he doesn't currently engage in much play. We believe he would truly benefit from having another confident, stable dog in his forever home to help show him that the world is a fun and amazing place. A canine companion who can help guide him while he continues building confidence would be a wonderful match.

Daniel can occasionally be startled by sudden loud noises or unexpected overhead movements. When that happens, he knows how to seek comfort in his crate, his safe space, and with calm reassurance, he recovers quickly. The progress he has made since arriving in foster care has been remarkable, and we know he will continue to blossom with patience, understanding, and love. Because he can be sensitive to unexpected sounds and activity, Daniel is looking for a home without small children where he can enjoy a calmer environment and consistent routine.

A securely fenced yard is required for Daniel so he can safely enjoy outdoor time, explore, and continue gaining confidence in his new world.

More than anything, Daniel wants to feel safe, secure, and loved. Give him that, and he will reward you with unwavering loyalty, quiet companionship, and a love that runs deep. If you're looking for a devoted best friend, a constant shadow, and a very smart Aussie who will continue to amaze you, Daniel may be the perfect match.

He is currently located in Alexandria, VA.
