Dancer's Story

Hi! My name is Dancer and I am about 2.5 years old., If you are looking for the cuddliest dog, look no further! I am a lap dog in a 58-pound body! Not much is known about the first two years of my life until I was found wandering the streets as a stray in Minneapolis. I was taken to the shelter, and due to shelter stress found myself on the euthanasia list. That’s when Hope stepped in and I moved to Iowa in January! In my foster home I have learned how to be a well-behaved dog! I am crate trained and will sleep in a crate at night or when you leave the house, but I also love to cuddle next to you at night. I know how to sit, down, climb (place), and shake! I am a good loose leash walker and am working with my foster mom to not get excited when we pass by other dogs. I am highly treat motivated and do a good job of gently taking treats. I am also cat friendly! I am still working on a few things including staying off counters and not destroying my toys. I also get very excited if someone comes into my house, so we are working on learning how to stay calm and not jump. If you roughhouse with me, I sometimes like to use my teefers (I don’t bite, but it is possible that I will make contact). I am a dog who needs daily exercise, and I prefer walks over playing in the yard. Because I am still working on some training things, I need an experienced owner who has a training plan for me after adoption. My foster mama says I have made great progress in the last few months and says with some additional time and training I will be the perfect doggy! Additionally, while I do have a dominant male dog in the house with me currently, it took some time before we got along and I did not do great in meeting another dominant dog. For that reason, my people think I would do best as the only doggie in the house, or with a more laid-back friend. I may still be a work in progress, but I promise that with a little patience and consistency, I will spend every single day making you glad you chose me. I have already come so far, and with the right family by my side I know the best is still yet to come. Could that family be you?

If you are interested in meeting Dancer, please complete an online application at https://hopeanimalrescueofiowa.duplie.com/forms/196/dog-application

Adoption fee is $250 which includes spay/neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccines.
