Dakota's Story

Dakota is an 18 month old, 24-pound terrier mix who is equal parts sweetheart, shadow, and very committed toy redistribution specialist.

Let’s start with the ear.

Dakota has one ear that stands up all the time like it’s constantly asking a question. We don’t know what the question is. We don’t know if it’s ever been answered. But the ear remains hopeful.

Dakota is a velcro dog in the most literal sense. If you move, he moves. If you sit, he sits (on you). If you go to the bathroom, congratulations, you now have an audience. He doesn’t just love his people… he prefers to be lightly attached at all times.

He does great with other dogs, is good with cats, and is an all-around easy roommate. He is housetrained, has never been kenneled, and is trusted to free roam the house like the responsible adult he believes he is. Now let’s discuss what Dakota does with that responsibility.

When his foster parents leave, Dakota thoughtfully empties the entire toy box. Not because he’s naughty. No no. Because clearly they made a mistake leaving all the toys in one place. Dakota is simply correcting it.

By the time you get home, it looks like:
• A toy explosion
• A yard sale no one supervised
• Or a toddler hosted a party and invited only squeaky things

He doesn’t destroy anything. He just wants options. Lots of options.
Dakota is still learning about the world. He lived a quieter life before, so things like leashes are new. At first he responded by dramatically flopping and barrel rolling like a fish who had just received very upsetting news. He is improving… but he would still strongly prefer a physically fenced yard where he can walk like a normal dog without all the theatrics.

Dakota also takes home security very seriously. When strangers come into the house, he will bark to alert you that an unknown human has entered the premises without proper clearance. He is slow to warm up, but once he decides you’re okay, he’s back to being a soft, snuggly little shadow.

He would do best in a quiet, adult home where life is predictable and calm… and where someone appreciates a dog who is equal parts sensitive soul and tiny, lovable weirdo.

If you’re looking for:
✔ A dog who follows you everywhere (yes, everywhere)
✔ A lap dog who believes all laps are public property
✔ A gentle, loyal companion
✔ A part-time security system
✔ And a dog who will redecorate your house with toys while you’re gone

Dakota is ready to move in and reorganize your life… one squeaky toy at a time.
Dakota is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.

If you’d like to meet Dakota, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org.

If you have questions about Dakota you can email rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657.

Adopters must live within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Indoor homes only.
Adoption Fee: $300

Fur Fun Rescue's Adoption Policy
Our dogs are all in foster homes. We require a completed application prior to meeting one of our dogs. The adoption application is on our website: furfunrescue.org. Once the application is received, we check the veterinarian reference if you have or have had pets. Then we contact you to set up a time to meet the dog. If, after meeting the dog you want to proceed with an adoption, we will run a background check, call personal references, and do a home visit. We always introduce our dog to any current pets. The final step is completing the adoption contract.
