Daisy's Story

Meet Daisy! Daisy started out her life in sunny Los Angeles, where she was born in a foster home. Her mother had been surrendered to a shelter while heavily pregnant and was facing euthanasia. She was rescued, and promptly gave birth to THIRTEEN puppies! Daisy made her way to RAD once she was old enough, in order to find her family. After a year with her family, she has come back to our care and is once again on the hunt for a forever home.

Daisy is a loving and happy dog. She’s still young, and has lots of energy to expend! Daisy adores being able to run around and explore, especially in areas outside the city where she can pick up some speed. She is a pro in the forest, and will be able to weave through the trees with ease on adventures with you. She loves to play, and will fetch her ball when you throw it, and if you don’t she will find herself a stick instead. She’s not picky! If she isn’t offered appropriate things to play with and chew on, especially inside, she can get creative and may accidentally chew on something she shouldn’t. She is smart, and highly food motivated, so so long as you give her appropriate options and work on some training, she will understand what’s ok and what isn’t. Daisy needs a lot of mental stimulation and exercise in order to be her best. When her needs aren’t met, she can show signs of stress inside by panting and pacing, and she is unhappy. In the times where she has been given adequate exercise, she is a different dog and clearly thrives.

With people, Daisy is a giant love bug. She wants attention and cuddles, and to play with you. She doesn’t understand her size, and she is not graceful. We don’t recommend her being placed with younger children for this reason - she will be a bulldozer, and knock them right over! With other dogs, Daisy is quite similar. Small dogs won’t be a good match with Daisy, she is too rough in her play. With medium or larger dogs, Daisy can play great. On leash, Daisy has frustrations when she sees other dogs. She can vocalize and pull, and can be harder to handle. She can focus on the other dog until they are out of site. At 110 pounds, Daisy is strong. She can pull on leash during walks, even more so when she sees another dog. Her family will need to be ready physically to be able to handle her, especially until they have done more training with her in order to reduce these unwanted behaviours.

The ideal home for Daisy is one that is outside of the city, and has space for her to run around. Her family should be active, and ready to include Daisy in their outdoor adventures. They will need to be ready to work on Daisy’s reactivity and leash frustration, which will be easier once Daisy has been given enough exercise and enrichment. Daisy also needs to lose approximately 10-15 pounds, so a little extra exercise will do her well!

WORDS FROM HER FAMILY:

Daisy will never tire of all the love and affection you want to give her. She will bring you balls and toys to spend quality time with you, and she will be happiest running around in wide open spaces in the countryside and lying in the sun with the stick she found along the way.
