DaiChi's Story

Apply to Adopt Me!
DaiChi (pronounced dye-chee) is a loving, lively, white Schnauzer mix weighing around 19 lbs. He was a
stray who ended up at the shelter. The shelter guessed his age to be 11 years, but his foster
mom believes he is younger, possibly around 8-10yo. He is wonderfully attentive, loves attention, is well-mannered, and is a happy companion. Overall, he is a great dog.

DaiChi is house trained and readily goes outdoors when kept on a schedule. However,
prior to his recent neuter, he marked and has been wearing a belly band in his foster
home. His instinct to mark has dropped dramatically since his surgery (only one week
ago) and his foster mom thinks he will continue to improve.

DaiChi gets along with all small dogs. He is currently in a foster home with many senior
canine companions. There are three cats in the home as well, and DaiChi mostly ignores
them. However, DaiChi is one to pile on with the pack, so if a fur sibling barks, he barks as
well. If one dog chases another, he will try to get in on the deal. He chimes in pretty
much on queue. Fundamentally, DaiChi has an active mind and is always on the alert
for action.

DaiChi has been sleeping in a dog bed next to his foster’s bed. However, he is one of
the best kennel-trained dogs ever. Simply point to his crate and say the word “kennel”
and he immediately goes in. If left in the kennel overnight, he does just fine. No matter
where he sleeps, he sleeps soundly through the night. His foster feels that he was
clearly well-trained earlier in life.

DaiChi walks very well on a leash and has great endurance. He is an athletic dog and
walks well alongside another one or two smaller dogs.

DaiChi is intimidated by a larger female dog in his foster’s home and his foster
recommends a new home without a large dog. DaiChi has been the aggressor in
instigating encounters with his larger foster sister, a 60lb. pitbull mix. Their interactions
were vocal but uneventful... all bark and air nips. However, things have occasionally
gotten loud and DaiChi’s bark is definitely noticeable when he is excited.

DaiChi is great with adults but has not been tested with kids. However, his foster thinks
he’d be fine with them. DaiChi is not very interested in toys but does like an occasional
chew bone.

DaiChi came to our rescue as an intact stray. Xrays showed he had many bladder
stones. He also had significantly neglected teeth. Presently, DaiChi’s mouth is in great
shape after a full dental. He only has his 4 canine teeth remaining but eats perfectly.

DaiChi had been scheduled for surgery to remove his bladder stones, however, a small procedure was performed during his dental that moved the stones in his urethra back into the bladder. His remaining stones are dissolving readily due to prescription urinary food. DaiChi will need to remain on this prescription urinary diet for his entire life to help prevent bladder stone recurrence, along with urinalysis every 3-6 months, and X-rays and lab work annually. With proper care, he can live a happy, normal life.

As a Schnauzer, he will require often combing and brushing, and regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and looking its best.

DaiChi greets people with enthusiasm. He is very intelligent and with a small amount
of training, he’ll make a perfect companion. If you are looking for a dog who wants to go
when you want to go and equally wants to relax when you want to relax, DaiChi is the
one. He wants to please and to be loved, and he is willing to put in the work to do so.
If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for
DaiChi, complete an app and tell us more about you.
