Daffodil's Story

Daffodil is eight years old and nobody told her. Take her out for a walk and she is the one setting the pace.

She is a hound, tricolor, black over her back and sides with a white chest and white legs and a tan face. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. She came to Petersburg Animal Care and Control as a stray, and we were able to track down the people who had her before, so we know something about the life she had.

What they told us matters. She lived with children and she lived with other dogs. She is sweet and friendly, and she can be a little aloof when she first meets you, and then she warms up and wants to be near you. Walks are the best part of her day. Eight has not slowed her down one bit.

Being honest about what we know and what we do not. Daffodil is an escape artist. She has gotten out of everything we have put her in, so she needs secure fencing and people who think about doors and gates before she does. She is also a counter surfer, and she is quick enough and tall enough to clear a counter she is interested in, so food does not get left out in her house. She has not been around cats that we know of, so we cannot tell you how she would do living with one.

We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
