Curry - ADOPTED's Story
Curry is 3 years and 3 months old, a Basenji and Formosan Mountain Dog Mix from the country of Taiwan. He currently weighs 35 pounds (as of 3/11/2022) and is fully grown. He is not hypoallergenic dog and sheds normally.

Curry’s rescued story:

Curry had a tough start. At one-month-old, he was abandoned on the side of a country road to fight for his own life alone. One night a lady riding a scooter on this road spotted tiny Curry and kindly took him home. But instead of keeping Curry inside the house with her toy poodle, she tied Curry under the vegetable shed in her vegetable garden located in the mountains for months.

She ignored Curry’s crying in fear days and nights until some hikers called the Police Office. The lady had no intention to keep Curry but did not want to dump him, so she brought Curry to the streets where she lived. Curry lived like a stray dog; the lady never gave him a meal or a pet, but Curry did not mind, he was very happy that he finally stayed close to his master.

Every night Curry slept by the lady’s apartment door, and daytime he never walked far from that area. Whenever Curry saw the lady came out of the apartment or came home from work, he was very excited to greet her, and his tailed never stopped wagging; however, the lady always gave Curry the cold shoulder as Curry never existed.

No matter how Curry had been mistreated by his master, he still loved her. Every weekend Curry knew the lady had to work in her vegetable garden, he lied outside the apartment to wait for her, then he would run behind her scooter and follow her to her garden. While the lady was working, Curry stayed by her side to guard her no matter how long or how late she had done.

As Curry grew older, he started to chase moving vehicles. Some residents called the Animal Control several times to catch him, but each time Curry went hiding. The neighbors started putting pressure on the lady to surrender Curry to the shelter, or someone would “take care of him.”

Curry was rescued by a dog rescuer after she was told Curry’s story by one of her Facebook friends; she thought Curry is a very loyal and intelligent dog that deserves a loving home.

Curry’s completed medical information:

After receiving a through medical exam, Curry was found to have Babesia disease. After months of treatments, he was completely cured and has been healthy.

Curry has passed the following tests: Distemper, 4 Idexx (Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma Phagocytophilum), CBC, Biochemistry blood work, and PCR tests. The X-rays also show that he does not have hip dysplasia. He will have teeth cleaned before coming to the US.

Curry is neutered, de-wormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations including rabies shot. He is heartworm negative and on monthly preventative treatment. All Curry's medical documents including the X-rays films on his hips will be given to his adopter when he is adopted.

Curry's temperaments and personality:

The rescuer was right with Curry that is not only smart but is very affectionate and loving to his caregivers. Curry has been fostered by his rescuer and her family including their 12-year-old daughter, two cats and one foster dog. Curry gets along well with all of them, but he prefers not sharing attention with other dogs and is happier to be the only dog or with another one in the family. He is the playmate of the rescuer’s daughter; he accompanies her doing the homework or drawing. .

Curry loves every member in this family. He always brings the family little gifts when they get home from work; it may be a slipper, a toy, a sock, or a small towel he found. Curry’s favorite person is rescuer’s husband. Even though he only takes Curry out for walks less than twice a week, Curry likes to go out with him because he walks faster and always takes Curry to explore different streets.

Every day Curry goes for walks with rescuer and her daughter three times a day. He is outgoing and is always full of energy when he was out. Rescuer said she and her daughter usually walk slowly, Curry would pull the leash to want them to walk faster because he cannot wait to find some fun stuff in the streets. “Curry is not very patient,” the rescuer said. She said every time when she chats with their neighbors on walks, Curry always "complains" to want her to stop chatting because he wants to keep going.

Curry is not passionate but friendly towards the strangers. He does not show interest in rescuer’s two cats at home because he considers them as his family members, but he tries to chase street cats on walks, “his greatest weakness is chasing birds,” his rescuer said.

Curry has never lived with little children, but he is kind towards them. If children try to pull his ears, his nose or lie on his body, he will walk away. If they try to take toy or food out of his mouth, he will try to get them back, but in gentle way. If they walk or run by him while he is playing toys or eating, he will not be bothered. If they initiate play, then Curry will happily respond; he will chase and join them.

Although Curry gets along with young kids, the moderately active family with children older than 5 years old is better for Curry to avoid children being pushed over by him while playing.

Apartment, condo, or retirees’ life pace is not our consideration. Curry is still very playful, we prefer to place him to a family with a fully enclosed fenced yard, not invisible yard.

Curry is 100% house broken. He insists on using the bathroom outside, and he never has accidents in the house, not even once. He is not food or toy aggression or possession towards both people and dogs. He does not have separation anxiety and is not scared of thunderstorms, fireworks, or other noises.

Curry does not chew furniture, and he loves toys; he especially loves to chew the cloth but does not eat them. The rescuer family usually give him some old discarded clothes or socks; Curry is satisfied and would play with them for a long time.

Curry loves to go for rides and is well-behaved in the car. He rarely barks but would bark to alert the rescuer family when strangers approaching the house.

Curry is shy in a new environment, and he will need 2-3 days to warm up.

We hope Curry’s new parents could include him into your outings, short trips, or vacations besides daily walks in the neighborhood or playing in the back yard. We really want him to have chance to experience different parts of his life that he had missed before.

Where is Curry and how to meet him?

Curry currently is in Taiwan but is scheduled to come to the US at the end of March; he will be staying with our foster family in North Wilmington Delaware after his arrival. If you are seriously thinking of giving Curry a loving permanent home, please email us for an application form. Before meeting Curry, the prospective adopter needs to fill out the application and be approved.

More videos of Curry are as follow:

1.
