Cuddle's Story

Hi, my name is Cuddle! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Active, social, affectionate - lives up to her name!
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown history - would likely do well with sturdy, dog savvy kids of most ages. All kiddos will need to meet at WHS to ensure everyone gets along! Up to counselor's discretion.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history - slow and supervised introductions always recommended.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes - all initial introductions done at WHS.
-Can do Apartment Living: No thanks - Cuddle needs a space where there is more predictability/larger area to explore and play!
-Potty Trained: Working on it
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes - 1 private lesson (breed requirement).
-Energy Level: High!
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes - a microchip.

Cuddle’s story is one of resilience - she was rescued from a homeless encampment, where she spent over a year living in a kennel 24/7. Given her past, it’s completely understandable that she may need a little time to settle into her new home. Patience, understanding, and plenty of positive reinforcement will go a long way in helping her build confidence and feel secure in her new routine. That said, Cuddle might just surprise you! Despite everything she’s been through, she’s remarkably well-adjusted and ready to connect. In fact, she’s incredibly affectionate and absolutely loves being around her people. She’s the kind of dog who will happily soak up all the attention you’re willing to give (and then ask for a little more!). As with any new 4 legged family member, we recommend taking things slow while she acclimates to her surroundings. Cuddle would likely do well in a home with people of most ages, though she can be a bit enthusiastic when seeking affection. Because of this, she’ll do best with sturdy kids or adults who are comfortable gently redirecting her excitement. With a little time and a lot of love, Cuddle is sure to blossom into an even more confident, devoted companion. If you think she could be the right fit for you, please fill out an application for review.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
