Cruz's Story
Name: Cruz
Age: Approx 2 years old
Breed: Northern Mixed Breed (possibly Cattle Dog/Heeler Mix)

Meet Cruz:

Cruz is a handsome Northern Mixed Breed, possibly a Cattle Dog/Heeler mix, with a heart as big as his adventurous spirit. His journey began in Kashechewan First Nation, where families were forced to evacuate due to unsafe water conditions. In the midst of this heartbreaking situation, many beloved pets had to be left behind. Thankfully, Cruz made it to safety and is now looking for the loving forever home he has always deserved.

Cruz has been adapting wonderfully in foster care and continues to show just how special he is. He is becoming more confident every day while learning that the world is a safe and exciting place. He is starting to show more independence, happily relaxing in his crate while his foster family is home, but he is still a loving boy who enjoys being close to his people.

Cruz is still learning about new sights, sounds, and experiences. He can be nervous around unfamiliar things and new people, but with patience and gentle encouragement, he continues to build confidence. This week, he made a new human and dog friend and was incredibly polite, sweet, and respectful.

He also had his first car ride and did amazing! Cruz enjoyed his first outing to a furniture store, where he handled the new environment well and showed how adaptable he can be.

Good With:

Dogs: Yes, Cruz enjoys the company of other dogs and has shown he can be a wonderful canine companion.

Cats: Interested in dog-savvy cats and continuing to learn appropriate manners. He has shown overevxcitabiity and passivity with cats. Recommending a no cat household or someone who is wiling to work on introductions and training proper manners.

Children: Has not yet lived with young children but has had positive interactions with older children and was friendly and comfortable meeting them. Dog-savvy or older children would be best suited.

Men & Women: Yes. Cruz can be shy at first but warms up with patience and positive introductions.

Cruz is playful, smart, and eager to please. He loves his ball, enjoys walks, and has plenty of puppy-like energy. His foster family has been taking him on longer walks to help him burn off energy, and he continues to thrive with structure and routine.

What Cruz Needs in a Forever Home:

Cruz would do best with an active individual or family who enjoys spending time outdoors and can provide him with exercise, enrichment, and adventures. A yard would be a wonderful bonus, but most importantly, Cruz needs a patient family who will continue helping him build confidence while showing him how amazing life can be.

Why You'll Love Cruz:

Cruz is a sweet, affectionate, and resilient dog who has overcome so much. He is playful, loyal, and loves being around his people. Whether he is exploring outdoors, playing with his favourite ball, or simply relaxing nearby, Cruz is happiest when he feels included.

He has come such a long way and is ready for a forever family who will love him unconditionally and continue supporting him as he grows into the amazing dog he is meant to be.

Cruz is currently at a boarding kennel in St Agatha, Ontario, and is ready to find the forever home he's been waiting for.
