Crowley the Best Buddy

CROWLEY 2 Years Old 38 lbs Shepherd Mix

The shelter called him Dale. We named him Crowley, after everyone's favorite mischievous character from Supernatural.

And while our Crowley has just a tiny streak of mischief himself, he's actually one of the sweetest, most lovable little guys you'll ever meet. He's got personality for days, a heart of gold, and just enough spunk to keep life interesting.

But Crowley's story almost had a very different ending.

Crowley was just another face in a sea of dogs at an overcrowded shelter. Nothing was wrong with him. He wasn't a bad dog. He simply wasn't getting noticed.

And then his name appeared on the euthanasia list.

He'd run out of extensions. He'd run out of time. And this perfectly wonderful little dog was about to lose his life simply because there wasn't enough room.

Thankfully, we got to him in time. And BOY, are we glad we did.

Because Crowley? Crowley is an absolute GEM.

At just 38 pounds, he's what we like to call conveniently sized.

Small enough to scoop up and carry when necessary. Big enough to be your hiking buddy. Perfectly sized to hop into the car without requiring a forklift. He's basically the travel-size version of an adventure dog, and we are HERE for it.

Crowley is about two years old, full of personality, and an absolute blast to have around. He loves to play, has plenty of energy for adventures, and knows how to dial it down when it's time to relax.

And here's where he gets even better.

It's pretty clear nobody spent much time teaching Crowley the ropes before he came to us. But this little guy is SMART. He listens, takes direction beautifully, and genuinely wants to figure out what you're asking of him. The progress he's made in such a short time has been incredible.

He's not a finished product, but he's an awfully good one. And watching him learn is half the fun.

His résumé is looking pretty impressive, too:

Great with other dogs

Good with cats

Good with kids

Crate trained

Smart, responsive, and eager to learn

Adventure-ready, with a built-in chill mode

Crowley is the kind of dog who makes ordinary days a little more entertaining. The kind who makes you laugh, keeps you company, and makes you wonder how you ever lived without him.

And to think we almost never got the chance to know him.

That's the part that gets us. This happy, playful, affectionate little guy was almost gone forever, and he had absolutely no idea how much wonderful life was still waiting for him.

We saved Crowley's life. Now somebody gets to give him the life he deserves.

And whoever that lucky person is? We have a feeling they're going to spend a whole lot of time saying, "How did nobody adopt this dog sooner?"

Seriously. Don't sleep on Crowley. He's 38 pounds of sweetness, personality, and pure joy, wrapped up in one conveniently sized little package.

And we think whoever adopts him is going to feel like the luckiest person alive.

Murrieta, CA

Apply to adopt Crowley at thecomebackpack.org
