Criss Cross Applesauce $99 ADOPTION FEE's Story
Born March 12, 2023 and weighing in at 28.7 kg | 63 pounds on January 13, 2026, Criss Cross Applesauce has had a difficult start.

She was used for breeding and with her last litter in October 2025, she had a serious consequence to her actions. A young child in the home got into the whelping box where she had just had her puppies the day before and she attacked the child, breaking both their wrists.

The breeders surrendered her to the local shelter with her puppies for euthanasia.

In speaking with the shelter, I asked them to please keep the Mom and puppies until the pups were 6 weeks old, then I would transfer them all to Mattie's Place. The shelter agreed.

On arrival, the puppies went into Mattie's Place foster homes (Baa Baa, Star, Twinkle & Muffet are still available for adoption) and Criss Cross Applesauce joined a trainer in a board & train program, where she has absolutely shown herself to be the best girl.

She's still just a young adult dog with plenty to learn in life, but she has certainly proven herself to be an adoptable dog. Given her history, I will not adopt her into a home with kids under the age of 16 years old. Can she be around kids? Yes. Should she live with them? No.

Criss Cross Applesauce will do best in an adult home with loads of power breed experience. A home willing to continue to work with a professional trainer so Criss Cross Applesauce can stay on her training journey so she can ultimately leave her past behind.

Out of the City would be best for her and a single family home with some room to roam makes the most sense I think for this good dog, deserving of a 2nd chance.

Her trainer knows her best, so please give the below a read to learn most about her .....

FROM THE FOSTER (TRAINER)

Criss Cross Applesauce is the sweetest soul with a playful, quirky personality. She was quite insecure when she first arrived, but she has really started coming out of her shell. When she came to me, she didnāt even know what a toy was and would actually run away from anything that squeaked. Now? She proudly hoards toys in her crate like prized possessions.

She is fully crate trained and house trained and is not destructive at all. I often leave her crate door open and she chooses when she wants to go in on her own. She finds comfort there and uses it as her safe space.

Criss Cross is a barker, especially when sheās excited, so she would not be suitable for apartment or condo living due to her big bark. She can also be a bit mouthy when she gets excited, but it is very mild and easily redirected. Even when she gets vocal or excited, she settles very nicely.

She knows most of her basic commands and has started leash work. She is very food motivatedāalthough a bit of a treat snob. Beef and chicken liver are her absolute favourites. She also loves Yak sticks, which she gets regularly as enrichment.

She eats twice a day. When she first arrived, she went on a bit of a hunger strike, so thatās something to be aware of during transitions. She doesnāt appear to have any food sensitivities.

Criss Cross does not show any food or resource guarding with humans, but she has exhibited some guarding behaviours with other dogs. She is selective with medium to large dogs but has been wonderful with all of my small dogs (even the spicy potato) and is best friends with the cat. Her reactivity with bigger dogs comes from fear and her insecurities, so hopefully with time she will learn they are safe. Sheās very much neutral and indifferent to smaller dogs.

If given the choice, she would happily sleep all day and will absolutely refuse to get out of bed if she has a fluffy blanket. Comfort is very important to her.

She is still unsure about some thingsāespecially men and boys wearing hatsābut she is improving more and more each day. With patience, consistency, and understanding, Criss Cross Applesauce will make an incredibly loving, loyal companion.

She is sweet, funny, a little weird, and so deserving of the very best life.

------------------------------------Ā

Ā $99 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.Ā

Ā ----------------------------------------Ā

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
