He’s just understandably nervous about trusting people. But he’s excellent about telling you when something makes him nervous.<br/><br/>For example, Cotton is not a fan of having his harness put on or taken off. When you start to do it he will bark and growl. He sounds very fierce! But it’s his way of letting you know he wants you to stop. Sometimes he lunges and snaps at you with his mouth. But he NEVER bites. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone. He’s just letting you know his feelings.<br/><br/>He sometimes gets anxious watching TV if the show is violent. He will bark at the TV! <br/><br/>Cotton loves snuggles! He will come up, put his paws on your knee in a “pick me up” gesture. And he DOES want you to pick him up. But here’s the trick, don’t pick him up under his forelegs with him facing you. Pick him up with him facing away from you. <br/><br/>You’ll never find a dog who loves walks more than this guy! He walks with gusto and is good with long walks too. And he loves the dog park.<br/><br/>Cotton would be good in a house with other dogs, but would also be fine as an only dog. He’s also good with cats. <br/><br/>Cotton has some issues, but if you are aware of them and willing to work with him you will not find a more affectionate buddy. <br/><br/>Adoption Information<br/>Please note: Because of their size, our dogs are not suitable for homes with children under 5.<br/><br/>We do not have a physical facility — all of our dogs live in loving foster homes.<br/>Lil’ Paws is a small, all-volunteer organization. To best use our limited time and resources, we are only able to correspond with individuals who have submitted an adoption application.<br/><br/>If you live in the immediate Austin area and are interested in adopting from Lil' Paws Maltese Rescue and Other Petite Paws, please visit www.lilpaws.org<br/>Our local adoption requirement is due to the thoroughness of our process, which includes home visits and a trial adoption period to ensure the dog has adjusted well. With our small team of volunteers, it is not possible to conduct these steps outside our area. Even if you are willing to travel, we must keep our efforts local to maintain the integrity of our process.<br/><br/>Our mission is to place our dogs in safe, stable, and loving homes within the Austin area.
