This precious 5-year-old female Maltese is officially looking for her happily ever after. After spending her first five years on a Wisconsin breeding farm, Cordoba is finally retired and ready to learn what it means to be a cherished family pet rather than a breeding dog.

Cordoba is an incredibly gentle, sweet, and quiet soul. Because the layout of a traditional house is entirely new to her, she is initially timid. Everyday things like television noises, stairs, and even the feeling of grass under her paws can surprise her. However, her resilient spirit shines through.

What Cordoba Needs in Her Forever Home:

Patience & Gentle Guidance: Because she lived in a kennel environment, Cordoba is not yet house-trained. She needs a patient adopter willing to use positive reinforcement to teach her the basics.

A Peaceful Environment: A calm household with a predictable routine will help her feel secure and come out of her shell.

A Canine Companion (Highly Recommended): Cordoba feels much more confident when she can follow the lead of another small, friendly dog who can show her the ropes of being a house pet.

Before applying, we strongly encourage you to read our Breeder Release article on our Resources page. It provides valuable information about the unique challenges and rewards of welcoming a breeder-release dog into your home and will help you understand what to expect as Cordoba continues her journey.

Foster Update-
I had the opportunity to be there when Cordoba arrived at the rescue and I was extra excited when I had a chance to bring her home as a foster. Cordoba is like a spring flower, at first, a tight, guarded bud—small, cautious, and holding her petals close to protect herself from the frost of her past. But with the steady sunlight of patience and love, a quiet transformation begins. Slowly and deliberately, she is starting to blossom into a beautiful flower.

Here is what makes Cordoba so special:
• Affectionate Shadow: Cordoba absolutely loves food and quickly grows to love the people who feed her! She isn't clingy and won't jump right into your lap, but she likes to follow you around to ensure she isn't left behind. If you pick her up to join you on the couch, she thoroughly enjoys the quiet companionship.

• Dog-Friendly: She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would thrive best in a home with another canine buddy to help her keep building confidence. She currently sleeps quietly through the night in a crate shared with her foster companion, Paradise.

• Quiet Companion: Cordoba is generally a quiet dog. She will let out a few alert barks for just a minute when she hears someone come home, but otherwise stays very peaceful.

• Housebreaking & Routine: She is making great progress with her potty training! While she has had a couple of accidents, she is learning quickly. When left alone for three or more hours, she stays out of the crate and wears a diaper just to be safe.

• Pint-Sized Adventures: Because she is so petite, full flights of stairs are still a bit too big for her. She can easily manage one to three steps in a row, but she will need a lift for a whole flight of stairs.

If you are looking for a gentle, loyal companion who will bloom right before your eyes, Cordoba might be the perfect match for you.

Fostered in West Bend.

See more on her facebook page: Lake Life Foster Friends

ADOPTION FEE: $650

To adopt the FIRST STEP is to complete an APPLICATION at fluffydog.net

Adopters must be 24 years of age.
