Cora's Story

YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO MEET OUR PETS.

Cora is a beautiful young girl (2-3 years old) who was found abandoned and tied to a rock in a public commercial area near a feral cat colony. She was a horribly matted and dirty mess and had to be completely shaved for her health and comfort. She is a petite 10.4 pounds.

She has very soft fur and will be so lovely when it grows back. She will need regular brushing and professional grooming to keep her in good shape.

Cora is a sweet girl who was feeling thrown off balance and anxious emotionally at having lost her person, whom she was obviously attached to despite having been so neglected. It is really tough to be abandoned!!!

She is now doing much better and just needs some time to build confidence and know that she is safe in any new setting/home.

Cora is even starting to play with toys!

She has been calm around cats.

She seems to be mostly deaf (will respond to hand motions and makes eye contact) so cannot hear your reassuring voice. She will need an understanding owner who maybe has experience with hard of hearing pups.

One big thing about Cora, she loves men! Check out her video (taken before shaving her coat). This is a kind man whom she had only known for a day or less. She is fine with women and will sit on your lap when she is feeling relaxed, but she expresses such joy when with a favorite man!

So, we really would love applications from men or families with an involved man who dotes on his dog!

And it seems she will benefit from a more laid back home environment with maybe another calm cat or dog to keep her company and probably no kids.

She doesn't mind being picked up and is a velcro dog with her favorite person.

Cora is not a gal who you stick in a crate and leave for 8 hours while you go to work all day. Cora would prefer a home with retiree or work from home family.

She seems to be fine with nice dogs, probably preferring easy going friends to help her feel settled.

She has been fine riding in the car back and forth to the vet, etc, just a little anxious and is fine walking on a leash though too anxious right now to want to walk beyond the vehicle parked in her foster homes driveway. Much more interested in feeling at home than going on some long walk right now.

She is doing very well with her house training on a regular schedule, but she will need to have a grace period at her new home in which you let her clearly know her new potty routine and make a point of taking her out frequently until she understands her new routine and trusts that you will give her often enough potty breaks.

Cora will be best in a home with a fenced yard since that will keep her safe until she realizes her new home is her forever home.

Cora is being fostered in Boone, NC by a foster who is great with deaf dogs.

Adoption donation $300

Please note that we do not ship animals. We also require a home visit before finalizing any adoptions so preference is given to applicants within a 90 mile range. You will be required to come to High Point, NC to meet/pick up your new pet.
