Copper's Story

Meet Copper, a 1½-year-old Chihuahua with a gentle temperament and an affectionate nature. He is a friendly young dog who greatly desires human attention and companionship, though he is still building the confidence to readily seek it out.

Copper benefits from a calm, patient environment where he is given time to feel secure and comfortable. Once he begins to trust his surroundings, his sweet and loving personality becomes more apparent, and he shows a strong desire to bond with his caregivers.

With consistent reassurance and a patient adopter, Copper is expected to continue to grow in confidence and make a devoted and rewarding companion. Copper has tested positive for heartworm disease and will require a follow up on 09/20/26. He has began the "slow kill" method for heartworm disease using Proheart 6 injection and Doxycycline.

Humane Society of Harrison County's Adoption Policy
An adoption application MUST be completed prior to an adoption. This document can be found on our web page www.hshc-paws.org at the bottom of the webpage under quick links. We will need time to process these applications, so if you are coming from out of town, please send them in ahead of your visit. Animals too young for spaying or neutering may NOT be adopted outside of Harrison County, and we can not respond to inquiries asking for exceptions. No pet that has not been altered will be adopted outside of our county due to Texas State law requiring all pets to be altered that come from a shelter or rescue. If they are to young we will adopt out locally so they can be brought back for surgery when they are old enough. Dog adoptions are $100 plus a $50.00 deposit for a spay/neuter surgery. Total adoption fee $150.00. Once the surgery is completed and we receive paperwork back from the veterinarian's office, we will refund you back your deposit. Cat adoptions are $65.00 plus a $35.00 deposit for a spay/neuter surgery. Total adoption fee $100.00. Once the surgery is completed and we receive paperwork back from the veterinarian's office, we will refund you back your deposit.
