Copper's Story

Copper is approximately three years old and currently in foster care in Terlingua, Texas. She's a beautiful, goofy girl with a fabulous lab waddle and a heart that is slowly learning to trust. Copper is happiest when she has other dogs around and has done wonderfully with both her foster’s dogs and visiting daycare dogs. She looks to her canine friends for confidence in new situations, so a home with friendly, active dogs would be ideal for this sweet girl. Copper is an easy walking companion and absolutely loves her leashed walks. She’s generally quiet, settles nicely in her crate, and has learned to entertain herself with toys without getting into trouble around the house. She knows her name, is learning her manners, and already has “sit” down. She is also a devoted fan of mealtime and may even perform a little happy dance when dinner is on the way!

Copper has a wonderfully endearing habit of creating her own cozy spots where she feels safe and comfortable. When she knows it’s time to go outside, she’ll happily trot to her chosen spot and wait with her tail wagging until she’s ready to be leashed. Once that leash goes on, she’s all business—excitedly heading out for her walk or to join her dog friends. She’s equally content playing in the yard or finding a shady spot for a good nap. Copper is a sensitive girl, and trusting people has taken her a little longer than making friends with dogs, but her progress has been encouraging. Her ideal family will understand that trust takes time and will give her the patience, consistency, and freedom to adjust at her own pace.

Thank you for considering an OTAT-WTX rescue! All pets are living in foster homes, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on core vaccines.

If you are interested in adopting, or for more information, please visit our website: https://otatwtx.org/adopt
