COOPER-OHIO's Story

PETFINDER INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AFTER READING HIS FULL ADOPTION LISTING. THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

*PLEASE CLICK "Show more" below to continue reading about Cooper. Please read all the way to the end as we include a lot of detail about Cooper.

Cute Cooper-Ohio is a 6-year-old male, 44 lb. Labradoodle who is in an IDOG foster home in Gahanna, Ohio near Columbus, Ohio.

FAST FACTS ABOUT COOPER:

*AGE: 6 years (born October 2019; will be 7 in October)

*WEIGHT: 44 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are required as he loves to run freely and play. No electronic or invisible fences will be allowed as we do not think these would set him up for success.

*COAT TYPE: Curly low-shedding Poodle type coat that will need regular brushing and grooming to prevent matting. Grooming costs are around $120/grooming session and he needs to be groomed every 6-8 weeks or so depending upon how long his coat is kept.

*ENERGY LEVEL: He is pretty low energy. He gets a lot of play sessions with the two resident dogs and a walk a day. His energy may be higher doesn't get exercised daily or have other dogs that like to play.

*DOGS: Yes! Gets along very well with the 2 large dogs in his foster home. His prior owners said that he did well with small and large dogs at their home. He loves to play A LOT so if there is a dog in his adoptive home the dog should be playful. We think he would likely do well as an only dog if his family gives him attention and exercise.

*CATS: Unknown; he has had no exposure to cats in his foster home. In his prior home, he had met some cats at friends houses and did fine but we have no first-hand experience of how he would be living with a cat.

*KIDS: we don't have any first-hand experience with Cooper around children but his prior owner said he was great around everyone. He will sometimes jump on strangers to say hi and then quickly calms down. If there are children in his new home, they should be dog-savvy and ok with being jumped on.

*CAR: Yes! He rides very well in the car!

*CRATE: goes in easily and is fine while in it. He is crated when no one is home and does well. He sleeps in his fosters bed and likes to be under the covers. Hahaha.

*HOUSE TRAINED: YES! He is fully house trained!

*LEASH: Cooper walks well on a leash!

*AT THE VET: Great! He was calm and happy when he went for his vet visit.

*VETTING: Cooper is neutered, microchipped, current on core vaccines, dewormer, and heartworm/flea tick preventives. He is heartworm and fecal negative.

*WITH GROOMING: He does well with his foster brushing him and cleaning his paws.

MORE ABOUT COOPER!

Cooper is an amazing guy. He is a 6 year old Labradoodle who weighs 44 lbs. and has a gorgeous curly black coat. He was surrendered to IDOG by his owner whose husband had just passed away. She wanted Cooper to have consistency and stability that she wasn't able to provide right now while she is grieving. She said that Cooper is an incredibly sweet soul and deserves to be with a family who can provide him with consistent routine and daily attention.

Cooper is goofy, sweet and friendly. He can be excitable at times when someone new comes over and he settles down quickly. He is a gentle dog and likes to be close to people. He is a cuddler; he loves to be on the couch buried under a blanket close to his people.

He is quiet for most part and is a big goofball and loves to burrow under blankets. He sleeps in bed and has to have his head covered at least.

His IDEAL HOME:
He would be great in most any type of home and would love to be with a family who will take him along on adventures with them or has another playful dog. He really loves his dog friends.

He is a really is a great dog. Quiet, low key, loves to sniff you, but doesn't lick. When he is outside in the backyard and doesn't want to come inside, he may start playbowing, barking, and running away. His foster mom just walks up to him and tells him to come inside.

We were told that he can be anxious around fireworks, thunderstorms/heavy rain and flashy light and does great in his crate when these things are happening. When he gets anxious from the fireworks, etc. he is not destructive; he will just pace around and bury his head in something (like under a blanket). We havent had him exposed to fireworks yet and will update the listing after July 4th.
He knows basic commands; he doesn't have good recall yet but is incredibly smart and would do well with more advanced training.

In his first home, Cooper lived with a Lab puppy, a senior Husky and a 10 lb. Mini Poodle all different size dogs with different energy and got along very well with them all. He is very adaptable to different energies and play styles. He loves snuggling with other dogs and has never been aggressive. He does very well with the 2 large does in his foster home as well.

Adjectives that describe Cooper, besides wonderful:
*Calm
*Low-key
*Goofy
*Gentle
*Playful
*Affectionate
*Snuggly
*Funny

Activities that Cooper enjoys:
**Snuggling with his head under the blankets
**tug
**fetch
**walking
**hiking
**running
**chew toys
**squeaky toys
**cuddling
**meeting new people
**playing with other dogs

A few needs work items for Cooper:
-he barks a lot when he is outside and when he sees something out the window. He does not bark in the car, on leash or at people.

After adoption we ask that you give any rescue dog time to acclimate - the 3/3/3 rule 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. For 3 days after adoption/transition, the dog may wonder who you are, what the routine is, who the other dogs are. After about 3 weeks, the dog has typically acclimated to your schedule & knows its role in the house. After about 3 months, the dog has revealed their temperament & personality & settled in.

ADOPTION PROCESS DETAILS:
*Please read ALL the information in Cooper's listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home.
*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).

*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Cooper please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.

*You must complete our adoption application fully. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.

*You can check the status of his adoption at https://www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

ADOPTION FEE: $495

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR Cooper-Ohio PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
