Cooper's Story

Hi, my name is Cooper! I am 2 years old (turning 3 soon) and am a Treeing Walker Coonhound. My current foster family took me in to help a girl who couldn't take care of me anymore. I am a true hound. An ideal day for me is walking outside in my fenced in yard and protecting my property. I alert my foster family with my hound barks whenever I feel someone is coming too close to the house.

I am a special kind of dog. I am not too sure how I came to be this way but I am extremely hesitant of meeting new people. I used to not know how to handle it so I would bark intensely to try and get the new humans away from me. After I went through a training program with my foster mom I was able to learn some tools that help me now. My foster mom now knows how to introduce new people to me so that I can slowly realize they are not a threat. I really need a fenced in yard because my favorite thing to do is explore new smells, lay in the sun, and guard my house.

I have two siblings right now as well. I get along with both of them beautifully. I like to play but I don't like it if another dog is too pushy or too aggressive with me. It makes me nervous. I have to be introduced to new people and dogs before they can just walk into my home. I am also happy to hang out in my bedroom while my foster family has guests or parties because sometimes it is just too overwhelming. I sleep with my human foster brother (he's 15) every single night and it's my favorite part of the day. I am extremely loving and loyal in my own ways. I love to sniff my family every time they walk through the door to make sure that I know what they've done for the day. I have a dog walker who I love and who I am fully comfortable with now. It seems that most of the time I am scared of men. But when you are in my circle, you are in for life. I also enjoy leaning and laying my body all over you for some well deserved attention.

I need an experienced dog owner who is ready and willing to make sure I feel safe in my own home and to make sure that they can follow through on all the hard work and training I've done. I am crate trained for when my foster humans have to leave the house. If you think I am a fit then please reach out!
