Meet Cooper — Your 26-Pound Shadow, Snugglebug & Part-Time Chipmunk Hunter<br/><br/>Cooper is proof that sometimes the very best dogs are the ones who have simply been waiting for their second chance. This handsome 9-year-old Cocker Spaniel is 26 pounds of pure devotion. He is the kind of dog who doesn't just want to be near his people—he wants to be touching them. If you're sitting on the couch, Cooper would like to be sitting beside you. If you're in the kitchen, he'll be there. Bedroom? Already on his way. Going outside? Excellent. Cooper is coming too.<br/>Basically, Cooper has decided that his life's new hobby is following his people from room to room, and honestly, he's very committed to it.<br/><br/>Cooper had a family for several years, but his life changed when they brought home a much larger, poorly mannered young dog. Cooper attempted to communicate some perfectly reasonable canine boundaries, but his corrections weren't appreciated, and ultimately Cooper was surrendered.<br/><br/>What we know now is that Cooper is an incredibly sweet, easygoing guy who loves people, loves attention and generally approaches life with a big “Sure! Why not?” attitude. Want to go for a car ride? Sure! Want to hang out in the yard? Absolutely! Want to vacuum around him? No big deal. Fire up the lawnmower or UTV? Apparently we're doing that now. Want to spend the afternoon on the couch? Cooper has entered the chat. Heading to the fridge for a snack? Cue Cooper’s walk out song: My bologna has a first name, it’s OSCAR. My bologna has a last name, it’s MAYER. Food is definitely his groove. <br/><br/>His one big exception is being left behind. Cooper does struggle with not being included, particularly when his favorite person leaves. He can make quite an impressive protest, think “THE HUMAN IS LEAVING! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!” levels of whining. His foster family is working with him and has already found that distraction and the presence of another person he trusts can help him settle. He's a work in progress, and his future family will need to be patient as he learns that people leaving doesn't mean they've disappeared forever.<br/><br/>And then there's Cooper's chipmunk situation. He is absolutely convinced that someday he will catch one. We have no idea what his plan is after that. But he has a plan. (No, he doesn’t, but that’s ok too)<br/><br/>He also has an impressive commitment to sniffing. Cooper believes every square inch of a yard contains important breaking news and must be thoroughly investigated. During his first doggie playdate, he politely greeted an older Lab and a Yorkie, then happily explored the yard alongside them. He doesn't need a wild playmate, he seems to appreciate calm, polite canine company.<br/><br/>Cats? Cooper gets an A+. His foster home has three cats with three very different personalities. Cooper politely attempted introductions, each cat issued the traditional feline “smack, smack” warning, and Cooper immediately decided that cats are, in fact, the bosses of the household. They now coexist peacefully, often hanging out on the same floor without a care in the world.<br/><br/>Cooper is also wonderful with people. Men? Yes. Women? Absolutely. Kids around six and older? He has lived successfully with younger children and has been described as wonderfully chill. His foster hasn't had enough experience with children under five to make a firm recommendation.<br/><br/>He's housebroken, rarely barks, enjoys car rides and is remarkably unfazed by the ordinary chaos of life. He knows sit, wait and leave it, and he's working on down (which he currently considers a questionable suggestion). “Down? But the treat is RIGHT THERE. Why would I go farther away from it?” Fair point, Cooper.<br/><br/>He's also had significant dental work and recently had 15 teeth removed, leaving him with 16 teeth that will need continued monitoring. His Cocker Spaniel ears have a history of chronic infections, so his future family will need to stay on top of ear care. He isn't currently on any regular medications.<br/><br/>And when the day is done? Cooper wants to sleep next to his person, preferably touching them. The bed is his preferred location, although he will graciously accept “near you” as a consolation prize.<br/><br/>He's part couch potato, part outdoor explorer, part professional shadow, part chipmunk detective—and 100% convinced that wherever his person is, that's where he belongs. So if you're looking for a dog who will happily spend Saturday morning exploring the backyard with you and Saturday afternoon curled against your side, Cooper would like to introduce himself.<br/><br/>He's not looking for a complicated life. He's looking for his person. Someone who will let him lean in. Someone who will help him learn that being left alone isn't forever. Someone who understands that a 26-pound Cocker Spaniel can somehow occupy approximately 97% of the available bed. And someone willing to accept that the chipmunk hunt is non-negotiable.<br/><br/>Cooper isn't asking for much. Just a family, a soft place to sleep, someone to follow around—and perhaps one day, the opportunity to finally catch that chipmunk. <br/><br/>Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.<br/><br/>Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog.
