Cooper1's Story
Cooper was rescued out of third ward (Houston) from a pack of stray puppies. Finders were able to trap him after animal control darted & removed 2 adult stray dogs but left behind their pups behind for the citizens to worry about. Several people had been going by & feeding the pups, trying to get close enough to grab them. Cooper was the only one caught that we were made aware of.

These babies are some kind of hound mix. Cooper most closely resembles a plott hound but his brothers had beagle like coloring. Their bodies are very tall & they might have some cur dog or similar breed mixed in them too. Estimated to be 4 months old at time of intake (mid march). Adult weight thought to be maybe 50-60lbs. Vetting is covered by the rescue thru your adoption fee of $200. Cooper has been socialized, dewormed, vaccinated, kept on heartworm prevention, neutered, and he’s now ready to go to his forever family!

Cooper is mostly potty trained but needs a little extra work from his new family to complete his training. He opened up pretty quickly thanks to the other pups in his foster home & turned into a playful, curious pup! Even after months though he does remain a bit shy of a dog. That may be his personality forever due to his unstable upbringing. He is a big happy baby though & he loves to play! He plays a little rough with the other dogs his size. Would do great with the guidance of a larger older dog who can teach him “how to dog”. Not recommended to adopt with small pets in the family or small children who could be easily hurt by accident. Nevertheless he is very loving & has no problem getting along with others! Please understand that this large breed dog will not be accepted by 80% of landlords. He’s looking for a home with a big yard & hopefully another large dog he can play with. Please only apply if you can provide him a secure, stable living situation.
