Cookie's Story

Cookie is estimated to be 9-10 years old and weighs 10-12 lbs. She is a rescue from Korea and is being fostered in Haymarket, VA.

Write up from her foster mom!
--
Cookie's been with us for a little over 5 weeks now and we've seen a lot of her personality come through. While there are still things that scare her, she is energetic, happy and really loves her people.

Cookie is estimated to be around 9-10 years old and weighs around 12 pounds. She is good with other dogs.

On her first day home with us she hid inside a pet cave and later a playpen we set up for her. She rested there, ate there but did come out to go for walks. I wasn't sure how long it would take for her to open up. She cowered anytime I would try to get near her, wouldn't take treats from my hand and shake and so that first day I gave her as much space as she needed. By the third day she was wagging her tail at me. It took her a longer time to get used to my husband but eventually after a little over a week he was able to pet her.

Cookie loves walks and I think it is one of the fastest ways to get close to her (that and treats/food). She gets walked twice a day and when she pees she balances herself on her front two paws, almost as if she is going into a handstand. It is normal!

Cookie is quite spry. People may think 9-10 years old is very old but age doesn't seem to slow her down. In fact I have to encourage her to slow down, especially when going up/down the stairs.

In the right environment, Cookie thrives, but there are still certain situations that make her nervous. For example, she tries to go as far away from people she sees on walks. She gets better once we have met them multiple times but still she won't try to get close. She may just need time to warm up but she may also just not like to say hello, which is ok too.

Cookie may seem scared when you first meet her but after spending time walking her and feeding her and she begins to trust you she transforms into the silliest, sweetest girl. Cookie's been waiting for the right family to adopt her to give her a good balance of activity and relaxation and we hope she meets them soon!

All our adoptions come with 2 week trial. If interested, please submit an application for us to review.
