Cookie's Story
Cookie is a smaller frenchie (18lbs) thought to be around 5-6yrs old. She was originally used as a breeder & then tossed aside after her last litter. A Good Samaritan tried taking her in to screen for a good home, instead of letting the owner hand her over to any random person, but the Good Samaritan found themself having a difficult time finding any serious interests. She had no medical records & eventually there was a “lump” noticed on her belly. At that point the decision was made to surrender Cookie to a rescue so she could receive some medical attention.

Sweet girl has been spayed, the lump on her belly was determined to be a hernia & that was also repaired during the surgery. The Dr said her uterus was so scarred from having several c sections in the past that it could not be entirely removed! The scar tissue had started binding to her abdominal cavity & they said the remaining portion left will shrivel with time. It just needed to be known that she may appear on an ultrasound as if she is "not spayed". Her ovaries are gone, though, and she is completely sterile. Her weight is excellent! Bulldog breeds are commonly overweight but this girl has a waist without ribs popping out. Now that she has recovered she needs increased exercise to build muscle & her calorie intake can be increased slightly as she becomes more active. Her heartworm test was negative! Antibiotics were given for skin issues, vaccines updated, flea prevention started. She seemed to have a bit of skin irritation from fleas but it's healing nicely & she doesn't appear to have the chronic bad skin that this breed can suffer from. She also has a pretty good facial structure for a brachycephalic breed! They did an exam before surgery to determine how big of a risk the general anesthesia/monitoring process may be for her, and she passed without concern. This little lady has been thru a LOT and she's ready to find the forever home that's going to pamper her!!

Her previous “foster” who took her in for a few months noted only 1 concerning behavioral instance. It was reported that 1 man who came into contact with Cookie got a snippy reaction from her. But it's unknown if the man startled her, had aggressive energy, or what may have been the issue. It was also in the earlier period of Cookie just leaving her original home & coming to a new place. As time went on Cookie was tested with several other men & never seemed to have this issue again. She was previously head shy when reaching in to her kennel to slip a leash over her head, but she never showed aggression AND she has now warmed up to a new loving life where she's no longer scared of leashing like she was! We definitely recommend a harness over a collar for this breed, but slip leashes are used sometimes & it's nice to see that she doesn't crouch down scared anymore. (She's also wearing a collar in these pics because of her abdominal incisions).

Cookie is good with crating. She doesn't make potty messes in her crate but she may need some guidance in a new home to make sure she understands potty areas. It's unclear whether she lived her whole life penned in 1 area or whether she has ever been free to roam a house. She loves food & water, and we would advise a slow feeder bowl to help prevent regurgitation. She does not show food reactivity when we reach in for her bowl, give food, touch her food, etc. But with all rescue dogs we advise following food safety practices. Always give the dog space to eat in peace, no reason to fear that she needs to protect her food, and make sure that no children can sneak up on a dog who is eating. If you have other dogs in the home be sure to feed them separately so no tension may arise.

Cookie has been introduced to a few other dogs & seems to be fine with them all. She walks well on a leash & stays near you off leash. She LOVES being pet & receiving affection from humans. She’s pretty submissive & crawls on the ground when you offer pets, often having that sad look to her face but making the most adorable little snorty noises when she gets excited. This poor sweet little dog is just craving for someone to see HER as the princess finally instead of overlooking her for puppies!!
1 eye is 3/4 blue and she just has the most darling face / personality. Adoption fee is $400 to cover the cost of surgery & care she has been given.
