Hi, I'm Cookie.<br/><br/>I'm a one-and-a-half-year-old boxer girl, about 50 pounds, and I'm looking for someone very special. I'm sweet, playful, and loving — but I need time to feel comfortable enough to show you that side of me.<br/><br/>My start in life wasn't easy. As a puppy, I was being sold out of the back of a vehicle in a parking lot. I was the only female in the litter, dirty, and in the roughest shape of the bunch. A young military man saw me and couldn't leave me there, so he took me home. When he was later deployed, he made the hard call to surrender me so I could find the right forever home.<br/><br/>When I first arrived at my foster home, I was absolutely terrified. A month and a half in and I am starting to blossom. When I feel comfortable, I'm happy, playful, affectionate, and full of classic boxer energy — goofy, a little bit clumsy, and always up for a game. I love my toys, I love car rides, and I love leaning into my person once I trust them.<br/><br/>New people and new dogs still scare me. I may hide, bark, or react if I feel cornered. I'm not a dog who warms up in five minutes — my trust is earned in hours, days, or longer. I'm still learning how I feel about kids and other dogs, so I'll need an adopter who can introduce me to new things slowly and read my body language rather than assume I'll be fine right away. A quiet, patient, adults only household is probably my best fit for now.<br/><br/>I did briefly meet another dog in foster care, and while I was curious enough to lean in and sniff him, my lack of confidence and the uncertainty of thris new encounter kept me at a distance. With more time, I may enjoy a canine companion to help teach me "dog stuff" and aid in building my confidence. The relationship just cant be rushed.<br/><br/>I am house trained, crate trained, spayed, up to date on vaccines, and have no known medical issues. I walk well on a leash, though I can get nervous around unfamiliar people or dogs, especially if there's barking nearby. Because of this, I need a home with a securely fenced yard.<br/><br/>A few silly boxer habits to know about: shoes should live high, because I like to rearrange them, and paper or cardboard doesn't stand much of a chance around me.<br/><br/>I may need more patience than some dogs. But underneath the fear, there's a whole lot of love waiting — I just need someone willing to help me feel safe enough to let it out.<br/><br/>If you think you can offer the patient, quiet, fenced-yard home I need, please fill out an adoption application.
