Comey's Story

Comey / M / 10Y / 32lbs / French bulldog mix / Fostered in Owen Sound

Comey is a sweet, quiet boy who has one simple wish—to be close to the people he loves. This gentle senior has captured his foster family's hearts with his calm demeanor and endless affection. Despite being blind, Comey navigates his world with remarkable confidence and grace, proving that love doesn't need sight. Comey has recovered from his surgeries (he had his eyes removed, and a dental cleaning with extractions).

Comey is the definition of a companion dog. He's cuddly, quiet, and content to spend his days snuggled up in warm sweaters and soft blankets. With a low energy level, he's perfectly happy sleeping the day away, waking only for meals (which he's always excited about—his least favourite thing is having to wait for supper!), short potty breaks, and plenty of cuddle time. He's made wonderful progress adjusting to his foster home and now even enjoys cuddling with guests.

Comey is potty trained (but likely to have accidents as he adjusts to a new home) and can be trusted to free roam in a dog proof area of the home. He's been successfully left alone for up to 7 hours with no issues and shows no separation anxiety. He gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats, though he's independent and prefers to give them their space rather than play. He's working through some generalized anxiety related to his blindness and adjusting to new environments, but with the help of a thunder shirt and anxiety medication, he's shown significant improvement.

Being blind means Comey needs some extra consideration. He does best with a tight leash to guide him on walks, and he can be startled if touched unexpectedly—talking to him before petting helps him feel secure. He also loves the warmth and needs plenty of cozy sweaters and blankets, especially in cold weather.

Comey would thrive in a quiet, structured household with minimal or no stairs. His perfect family would be someone looking for a devoted companion who wants to spend their days together—whether that's cuddling on the couch, sharing a bed at night, or simply being in the same room. He'd do best in a home without young children, as unpredictable noise and movement can be stressful for him.

If you are interested in adopting Comey, please complete an adoption application on our website.
