Coltonobre / Callie's Story
Story | Sweet, social, soulful, and ready to be someone's best girl

Callie may not be the dog who stops every scroll because of a perfectly polished look — but she is absolutely the dog who will steal your heart once you know her.

This 9-month-old Lab/Red Heeler mix is tender, affectionate, playful, observant, and incredibly loving. She is the kind of dog who wants to be near her people, play with her dog friends, carry her favorite stuffed toy from room to room, and quietly become one of the best parts of your life.

Callie's beginning was not easy. She spent her early months surviving on the streets in Texas, where she found safety in a little “street family” of four other dogs. They were different ages, sizes, and breeds, but they looked out for each other like family. Thanks to a kind person who faithfully fed them and a group of good Samaritans who stepped in when it mattered most, Callie and her crew were given the chance to leave survival behind and start again.

Now Callie is in Colorado, learning what it means to be safe, loved, and wanted. And she is blossoming beautifully.

Callie is ready for her happily-ever-after... could it be with you?

Want to adopt Callie? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP, and an Adoption Coordinator will be in touch within a few days. Our standard application processing timeline is 12 - 14 days.

Personality | Callie is as sweet as they come. She is gentle, curious, silly, affectionate, and full of hope. She warms up quickly, and once she feels comfortable, her loving little personality shines.

She loves attention, pets, and snuggles from her people. She also has a playful, puppy-like side and may try to charm you with her big eyes if she sneaks off with a shoe that was clearly not meant for her.

Callie is smart, observant, and emotionally tuned in. She picks up on routines quickly, takes correction well, and genuinely wants to do the right thing. She has a wonderful balance of playful energy and soft sweetness.

Other Dogs | Callie needs another friendly, confident dog in her forever home.

Dogs are her comfort zone, her teachers, and her favorite playmates. She is social, respectful, and happiest when she has canine friends around. She loves tug-of-war, romping in the yard, and carrying her toy pig from room to room in case another dog decides it is playtime.

A home with another dog will help Callie continue building confidence, especially as she learns that the world outside her safe spaces can be good, too.

Cats | Callie has not been fully tested with cats. However, she has shown herself to be cautious and respectful around other furry creatures, so she may be able to live with a dog-savvy cat with slow, thoughtful introductions.

Ideal Home | Callie's dream home will include:

A friendly resident dog
A secure fenced yard where she can play
People who are patient, kind, and encouraging
A family who understands that confidence is built one positive step at a time
Older, respectful children if kids are in the home

Callie would thrive with adopters who can give her the structure, companionship, and gentle encouragement she needs while she continues to grow into herself.

Training | Callie is doing wonderfully in her foster home. She is fully potty trained and kennel trained, which is a huge win for a puppy her age.

She is smart, eager to please, and learning quickly. She is currently working on commands like “sit,” “down,” and “stay,” and she has already shown that she is very capable when given clear guidance and consistency.

Leash & Outdoor Confidence | Because Callie spent her early months on the street, she is still learning that going out on leash is safe and enjoyable. She is not quite ready to be a confident neighborhood-walk girl yet, but she is making progress every day.

She allows her harness to be put on easily, watches her foster siblings go out and come back happy, and is starting to explore outside on lead with her foster mom. She is brave, but she needs someone who will let her build confidence at her own pace.

What Callie already knows she loves? A backyard.

She loves having a secure fenced space where she can romp, race, sniff, and play with other dogs. A yard will be an important part of helping Callie feel safe, happy, and free.

Activity Level | Callie has a moderate to high activity level, which is very normal for her age and breed mix. She loves to play and be social, especially with other dogs, but she is not a nonstop busybody. When things settle down, she is happy to relax, nap, and enjoy the comfort of home.

She would love a home that can give her playtime, structure, companionship, and plenty of chances to keep learning.

Health Notes | Callie is healthy and up to date on vaccines.

Why Callie? | Because she is the dog people might scroll past — but should not.

Callie is loving. She is loyal. She is playful. She is smart. She is dog-friendly, people-loving, kennel trained, potty trained, and full of potential.

She does not need a perfect family. She needs the right family.

A family with another dog.
A backyard.
A little patience.
A lot of love.

Callie has already survived the hard part. Now she is ready for the beautiful part.

Thank you! |

Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care (that currently average over $750 per dog).

Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file.

Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.

We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
