Colt's Story

Meet Colt (3-4 years old, ~45 lbs)

After his owner passed away, he and Sheila were surrendered by family. It is very clear their previous owner cared for them deeply. We were told originally Colt is 11 years, but it is clear he is much younger by his teeth and energy. Colt is eager to bond and engage, love adventures, pets, and cuddles.

Colt is a Norwegian Elkhound / spitz-type mix gentleman with shepherd breed charm. This ball of fluff is very responsive to engagement and excited, affectionate praise when he does well— he is learning recall and really improving with lots of positive reinforcement. A longer body and short legs, Colt could easily be his own cartoon character.

Colt:
– House trained
– Friendly, affectionate, and people-oriented, but independent if left alone - repeated, consistent engagement is important for him!
– Kid-friendly
– Dog-friendly and playful
– Bonds quickly to new handlers and dog friends
– Typical northern breed traits, including being vocal, “singing,” and having escape tendencies with low, climbable, or unsecured fencing
- Good when comfortable on leash and working on loose-leash walking.
- Likes playing in streams, ponds, and kiddie pools

Important notes for Colt's safety and success:
– No cats or small animals
– Very tall, secure, non-climbable fencing required, or leash-only exercise until a bond is developed/recall training. Both have been doing really well learning this language and will thrive in a home that continues to build on that.

Colt shines best with routine/regular adventures, companionship, and an understanding that he needs engagement and a bond.

Want to meet him? His charm will win you over quickly. Colt brings warmth, loyalty, and personality.

As with all of our dogs, his adoption includes group training classes, which help reinforce what he has already been learning, strengthen your new bond and support a smooth transition into his new home.
