Cody Clegane's Story
CODY is a very sweet boy with tons of energy. He's a gentle giant and a young guy at just 2 years old.He was just returned from being adopted as a puppy ONLY because of his prey drive with the household cats. Other than that, he's a sweetheart with everyone and everything (okay, chickens are a no-no, also) He just loves to cuddle. He is completely housebroken and scratches or stands at the door to go out. He is crate-trained and he knows it as his “box” and gets a treat when he goes in for “night-night” time. He loves his crate and goes in it himself when he’s tired around 8pm. He loves to have a stuffed animal to tear up/suck on. He will suck on his stuffed bear’s foot and “make biscuits” on it like a cat. Loves all dogs and people he meets, would absolutely love to live with another a dog and plays well with others. He is fully vetted and right about 100 lbs. He's a gorgeous pup!

Walking him can be a challenge (although the returning adopters were just starting to work with a no-pull leash and having initial positive results with that). He gets very excited to meet and see people and tries to jump on everyone. (Training can definitely help this) He loves sniff walks, even just around the yard. Loves sitting outside and watching traffic or construction. He enjoys hard running/chasing games. He loves chasing a ball but won’t always bring it back. Loves car rides but will try to climb all over the place if not secured. A fenced in yard would be great for him to expend some of his remaining puppy energy. He is very clumsy and sometimes doesn’t know how big he is. Loves a good bed nap especially if a human is involved. Loves for you to chase him when he has a toy and say “Gimme that!” Loves to find people during hiding games. Hates baths and having his nails trimmed. He gets his nails done at the vet and takes trazodone before any appointment. It barely helps him during the appointments but he’s very sleepy afterward. He can be a counter surfer which is also trainable. He seems to have some kind of seasonal allergy that makes him very itchy in the summer.
Commands/words he knows:
Sit
Stay (sometimes)
Speak
High five
Paw
Other paw
Come here
Drop it (sometimes, will always “drop it” for a treat)
Go pee
Go poop
Outside
They’re here
Get in your box/night-night time
Let’s go
Walk
Treat
Toy
Play
Blue stick (one of his toys)
Ball
That’s enough (for any undesirable behavior that has gone on too long)
No jumping / no pulling (knows what they mean but doesn’t always listen)

👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue.

💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply and be sure to choose their name from the dropdown to expedite your application!!

✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available.

📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience.

🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)
