Cody's Story
Cody l-o-v-e-s the snow that fell overnight. He happily cruises the yard snuffling about in all the glorious white stuff!

Cody is a Pem who is aging gracefully, but who has never grown old in spirit and who remains forever young at heart. Our vet and his staff have fallen in love with this dear sweet boy and can't say enough good things about him.

Cody has been a busy busy boy since his bio was last updated. He is now down to 42.2 pounds having lost a total of 3.5 pounds since he arrived into our program. "Weigh" to go Cody!

We have found out that Cody rides very very well in the car and seems to kinda enjoy tooling around town with his foster mom. He just sits back and takes in the scenery rolling by.

Additional bloodwork, abdominal films & an ultrasound were taken prior to him going under anesthesia to be confident he could tolerate it well and had no underlying medical conditions that would need to be addressed first. He checked out fine and Cody was microchipped and had his much needed dental that included; cleaning, polishing & a fluoride treatment. He is feeling sooo much better already! He had a total of 6 teeth extracted, 2 of which were abscessed molars. He also had an abscessed & infected salivary gland that was treated as well. Poor fella! Thankfully, his Corgi appetite hasn't been affected in the least and he continues to relish his every meal. We are softening his food for the next few weeks to be sure his mouth is fully healed before offering dry food which might be irritating to healing tissue. In addition, he had 3 fatty tumors on his torso and a tiny lump on head removed & biopsied as well. He is on pain medication and antibiotics during his healing process to speed his recovery and avoid complications.

***********************************************************

Cody was well loved by his former family and they had him since he was a young pup. Their circumstances sadly changed and continued ownership was no longer possible and he came into our rescue program.

Cody is a purebred fawn & white Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He was born 6/6/97 and weighed in at 45.7 pounds on 1/17. He IS a larger boy with a big frame but is overweight as well. Cody needs to shed around 10 pounds to feel his best. He is now on a portion controlled diet with canned pumpkin and green beans added to help him feel full and and add healthful fiber to his diet. Cody has some arthritis in his limbs but remains agile and can move surprisingly quickly for a dog his size when its time to go for a walk or play ball or there is a chance of getting a cookie. Cody is now on an inexpensive glucosamine/chondroitin daily supplement that will support joint health and mobility - something we recommend for Corgis of all ages. We can just imagine how spry he will feel as he drops a few pounds!

Cody was neutered when he was 6 months old, has been dewormed, vaccinated for rabies, dhpp, and bordatella, tested heartworm negative, and is on heart worm preventative. His vet exam included: a health exam, senior blood work including his thyroid level and a routine urinalysis to check his overall health. His ears look fine and he can hear the cookie jar being opened from at least 20 paces away! His eyes show expected changes that come with growing older but his vision is fine. Cody did great for his vet exam and although he didn't enjoy his physical exam he endured it with great aplomb since his foster mom insisted and she kept rubbing his ears and telling him what a wonderful boy he was!

Cody is a sweet boy and extremely well mannered. He is definitely a people pup and thrives on spending time in the company of his family. He would do best with a family that is often home; retired, works from home or one who can routinely take Cody with them when they are out and about. Cody has not lived with very young children. He may do best in an adult home or with older considerate children since he was not raised with youngsters. He truly enjoys being with kids and cheerfully hangs out with them even if its just keeping them company while they do homework or play a video game, and of course a fun filled game of fetch is never turned down!

Cody loves to play fetch and likes nothing better than to play ball with his people. In fact, he won't stop playing and his ball needs to be put away after some fun & games so he doesn't overdo it! He would benefit from daily walks - which he loves! - to help him stay fit and active and help manage his weight. Cody does tend to pull a bit on lead - he seems eager to see what is up around the next bend. We would prefer for Cody to have a fenced yard to enjoy. Cody is house trained and is crate trained as well.

Cody did not live with other animals but has been introduced to the gentle resident dogs and cat in his foster home and introductions went smoothly all around. So far Cody is proving himself to be agreeable to sharing his space with other gentle animal companions. He is not especially dominant nor submissive and is a more of an agreeable, middle-of-the-road, sort of guy when is comes to interacting with other animals.

Cody had a bath and seemed to enjoy it! Afterwards, he pranced around pretty-as-a-picture as if to show off his handsome coat! He did fine with having his ears cleaned and didn't mind his feet being handled one bit.

Adoption donation required.

If you are interested in adoption, please fill out an Application prior to contacting us.
