Cocoa<br/><br/>We fostered Cocoa (or known to us as Cocoa Chanel) for a little over a month; it was a blessing in disguise watching her blossom over that time with us. When we began the foster process, BTR told us that it normally takes 2 weeks for dogs to decompress in a new home, that's exactly what Cocoa needed. After those initial 2 weeks with us, her personality started to bloom each day as she began to decompress to a new environment. Watching her express her personality made us smile and laugh each day while feeling the sense of comfort with her.<br/><br/>Cocoa is absolutely trainable with enough time, patience and repetition. Cocoa is highly food motivated which makes her more focused into her training (although she may sniff your pockets if she knows that's where her treats are!). She knows sit, down, stay, bed, off, and "nice" when taking treats from your hand. Cocoa does enjoy peaking what is on the counter and on the lookout for some extra treats she can snatch. With a simple "off" command and reward, Cocoa responds well. During her time with us, we taught Cocoa a "bed" command when she needed to go into her crate when no one was going to be home or when it was everyone's bed time. She responds very well with this command and learned it quite quickly! We believe teaching her this command and giving her a treat as an award eased her anxiety with being in a crate at different times in the day. With this command easing some of her anxiety, we felt more comfortable allowing her to have blankets at night and during the day if she was ever in her crate. It's safe to say she started taking some harder naps with a blanket! <br/><br/>One of the main things about Cocoa is we do believe she would highly benefit from some simple obedience training and some additional professional training when it comes to playing with her toys. Cocoa is not aggressive and does not growl when her people are around her or petting her when she is playing with her toy. We strongly believe Cocoa could use the professional training when it comes to playing with toys since she is toy possessive and resource guards when her toy needs to be taken away, whether it is for a bathroom break or something else. Unfortunately, Cocoa doesn't know yet about trading higher value treats for her toy, which is why we think getting trained from a professional can be beneficial for her understanding. Until Cocoa knows how to properly play with toys and learn a type of "release" command, we think she would do best as the only dog in the home even though she gets along great with other dogs. Additionally, we believe she was able to decompress more as being the only dog in the home with us for that period of time. That being said, Cocoa can keep herself occupied when playing with her toys for multiple hours at a time.<br/><br/>On another note, Cocoa does VERY well on walks! She does not react when passing people or other dogs, she just keeps trotting along with her ears bouncing in the wind! She may pull and zig-zag from time to time, but she does really well over all, especially when she holds the leash in her mouth! She also walks very well with other dogs that are on walks with her. Along with walks, she is a 5 star winner in the car! Cocoa enjoys a nice car ride and normally naps the whole time. She may be excited the first time in a new car with new smells, but she settles down in no time.<br/><br/>During her time with us, Cocoa did not have any accidents in the house so she is potty trained! Once she had a routine down, she knew exactly which door to go to when it was time for her potty breaks. Additionally, she did not show any attention or interest in couch pillows or furniture as if it were her toys, and she didn't jump on any furniture that she didn't have permission to be on. But, if you are sitting on the couch, she will come over for some extra attention, especially some chest rubs or just to be in the same space as her people.<br/><br/>Cocoa truly is such a special and sweet girl. She loves rolling over for an occasional belly rub, loves giving kisses until her heart can explode (leaving you in a bath full of kisses), craves chest and head rubs, and always loves to see what you are up to by placing her head on your leg. And what better personality trait than a constant tail wag from this ray of sunshine no matter where she is and what she is doing, her tail never stops! She is just one happy girl who is filled with joy and and making moments memorable. Her eyes are total soul suckers!<br/><br/>Cocoa is ready for a home who can dedicate love and some extra training for her and she will absolutely thrive. As long as she is in the same room with you, there is nothing her big heart and brown eyes could't ask for. She is waiting to give you her unconditional love!
