Cobbler's Story

This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, October 18th from 12-3pm unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance.

Adoption fee: $750
Meet Cobbler (a.k.a. Cobby!) — a 2–3 year old Schnauzer-Basset type mix with the softest coat, the shortest legs, and the biggest heart. At about 25 lbs, this long-and-low boy may have been overlooked at the shelter, but the moment we met him, we knew he was something special. The shelter staff adored him, and it’s easy to see why— he’s gentle, sweet, and simply the best boy.

Cobby is an adorable, charming dog who wins fans wherever he goes. He loves to be close, whether that means curling up next to you on the couch, trying to sneak onto your lap (he’s a bit big for it, but don’t tell him that), or cozying up in your chair or bed. He’s also playful and loves a good game of fetch, happily chasing and returning balls.

This boy has a curious streak and is endlessly fascinated by the world around him— he’ll intently watch birds and squirrels and is always up for an adventure. He has bursts of energy, especially if he’s been cooped up for too long, which might translate into silly zoomies or sneaky chewing. To keep him happy, he’ll need plenty of exercise, soft and hard chew toys, and enrichment to stimulate his brain.

Cobby is smart and eager to learn. He already has a good recall and knows “sit,” and he’s working on “down” and “stay.” He’s improving with not jumping up or being mouthy, though he still needs reminders. On leash, he walks briskly, though he can be distracted by other dogs—sometimes lunging because he wants to play with them.

He’s very good with adult strangers but can be uneasy around smaller children, so an adults-only home or one with older, dog-savvy kids would be best. Cobby has proven adaptable to many environments— he’s lived in a suburban home with a yard, gone hiking in the mountains, and even done city apartment life with its bustle and noise.

Cobbler is house-trained when in his daily routine in his foster home but may have accidents when moving to a new location and learning the ropes.

Cobbler was previously adopted and returned through no fault of his own— he developed a case of ringworm, which has since been fully treated. Our vet has given him the all-clear, and he’s now healthy, happy, and ready for his true forever home.

Cobby is equal parts cuddle buddy, playmate, and curious explorer. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big personality and an even bigger heart, this very good boy is ready to be yours.
