Clyde's Story
Meet Clyde!

Clyde is a 9-month-old Shepherd mix, about 32 pounds, and quite possibly one of the funniest puppies you'll meet — you just have to give him a little time to let you in on the joke.

When Clyde first meets someone new, he can be shy. He isn't reactive or upset by strangers; his preferred strategy is basically to pretend you don't exist. New adults and teenagers come into his foster home without any issue at all. Clyde may simply go about his business while he decides what he thinks of you.

And then, seemingly out of nowhere... BAM. You've been accepted. Suddenly Clyde is giving kisses, bringing out his toys and revealing the goofy little class clown who was hiding underneath.

Because Clyde is still a puppy, we don't necessarily see his initial shyness as a lifelong personality trait. With continued positive experiences, basic socialization and a family willing to let him build confidence at his own pace, we think he'll continue to blossom.

And once Clyde is comfortable, he is FUNNY. He absolutely loves toys, loves to play and has that wonderfully ridiculous puppy energy that will keep you laughing. He can zoom around, entertain himself, wrestle and play, and then happily settle down for a nap.

Clyde also absolutely LOVES other dogs. He has done beautifully with the dogs in his foster home and genuinely enjoys their company. He would be very happy with a friendly canine sibling and seems to gain confidence from being around other dogs.

He has also done well with cats and kids. He is gentle, takes treats nicely and isn't a puppy who is constantly jumping, nipping or mouthing people.

Clyde is housebroken and has settled beautifully into the routine of his foster home. He can be trusted with the normal rhythms of family life, and at night he happily sleeps right on his foster mom's bed.

This sweet boy just needs a family that understands he may not throw himself into their arms during the first five minutes. Give him a little patience and let him make the first move.

Because once Clyde decides you're his person, the shy puppy disappears — and the affectionate, toy-loving, kiss-giving class clown comes out.

Apply to adopt Clyde at bcaaofnj.org
