Clifford's Story

WARNING: This is not the friendly neighborhood red dog you grew up reading about.

Clifford may be red... but unlike the storybook version, he's not out here hosting block parties and helping kids cross the street.

This Clifford is more like:
"Please admire me from a respectful distance while I process my feelings."

He's a tiny spicy meatball with the emotional range of a divorced middle manager. One minute he's cuddling you like you're soulmates... the next he's personally offended you had the audacity to leave the room. Separation anxiety? Yes. Strong opinions? Also yes.

At 18 pounds, Clifford somehow contains:
the emotional stability of a wet paper towel
the opinions of a chihuahua
the dramatics of a Pomeranian who was told "no"
and the velcro tendencies of a pitbull... when he feels like it

BUT - once he settles in and trusts you, he really does calm down and becomes a hilariously loyal little dude. He loves his people HARD. Like "tiny red security guard that follows you to the bathroom" hard.

He just needs someone who understands that not every dog was born to be a Golden Retriever named Sunshine. Some are tiny red dragons in fluffy dog form.

Clifford can get nippy when overwhelmed or upset, so he needs a home that respects boundaries, structure, and routine. He LOVES his kennel and treats it like his emotional support apartment, so future adopters MUST be comfortable using one.

Because of his quirks:
Probably best with respectful older kids (10+) or adults
Needs someone who understands quirky dogs
Not a "let strangers pet him at Home Depot" type of guy
Would thrive with patience, consistency, and a good sense of humor

Honestly? Clifford isn't for everyone.
But for the right person... he's going to be absolutely their everything.

Northern Lakes Rescue's Adoption Policy
We do not focus on one definition of a perfect home and instead focus on finding the best home for that particular dogs needs. Some dogs may require homes with fences, other dogs, children etc. while others do not. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed, are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website https://northernlakesrescue.org Our adoption fees cover spay, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care the dogs may have needed while in the rescue’s care.
