I’m a silly, affectionate, curious, playful pup who just wants to be by your side. I’ll be your eager exercise partner, I’ll curl right up next to you on the couch, preferably under a soft blanket, for cuddles and chill time, I’ll follow along, helping you out with household chores, I’ll happily listen to you tell me all about your day. Whatever you want from a constant companion, I’m your guy! I find comfort and contentment from connecting with people, and I would love to share my zest for life with you.

I’m a darling, 7-month-old, 30-pound (and still growing!) Pointer mix, with soft puppy fur, the cutest, expressive face and ears, and a happy, spunky, delightful personality. I’m already crate trained and mostly housebroken too. I might have a few accidents as I get settled in, which is perfectly normal, but if you keep me on a schedule, it will help to set me up for success. I’ve recently learned to sit by the door when I need to go outside. I came to Wayside as a wee pup, all the way from a shelter in Hawaii that didn’t have space for me. I was adopted, but things didn’t end up working out for me there when I chased and cornered the resident cats. Oops! I wanted to play, but I guess they weren’t interested. Being in a shelter is stressful for an energetic young pup like me, so I you might see me jumping and carrying on in my kennel. I’m just trying to get your attention! I was thrilled to be able to spend several weeks in a loving foster home, learning house manners and feeling all the luxuries of life in a home as part of a family. It was incredible! I’m back at the shelter now, ready for you to take me to my new home and to make my dreams come true.

In foster, I quickly and happily settled into my new routine as a family dog, although I continued to learn every day too. I was the perfect combination of active yet able to chill. I quietly stayed in my crate at night and a couple hours throughout the day when no one was around to supervise me or when I needed a break. I’m a typical pup who is curious and interested in everything, so Foster Mom kept an eye on me. It was easy to do, because I followed her around the house like a little shadow. Wherever she was, I was right by her side. She was my favorite, although I loved the rest of the family too, including Foster Dad and the kids, ages 11-19. I got so excited to welcome them when they came home from work or school! I enjoyed having visitors stop by too. I was friendly with everyone, and I learned to stay calm instead of jumpy. Making good choices was part of my training both in foster and here at the shelter. I’m smart, eager to please, and I thrive with positive reinforcement and praise. I want to do the right thing. I want to make you proud.

I like playing with my toys, especially balls or durable chew toys. They make me happy. In foster, I loved lounging outside listening to all the new sounds and exploring the scents around me. Peacefully napping on the couch next to Foster Mom was one of my favorite things. I was mostly quiet unless I got startled or I heard the other dog bark. I will need a safe and quiet spot to eat my meals, where I know no one will bother me. Mealtime is important to me, so please let me enjoy it in peace.

I’d love to have a fenced yard in my new home, where I can run and play and explore. I will enjoy going for walks in the neighborhood or on the local trails, too. I’m working on my leash skills and learning not to pull. A harness helps me stay focused. During walks, I excitedly greet new people I meet along the way, but I’m not reactive when I see other dogs. I do love to play and just hang out with other dogs, though! I lived with a dog in my foster home, and I spent my days trying to get him to play with me. He wasn’t always interested, so I tried to stay patient and to listen to his corrections. I’d love to have another playful dog around to help me expend some energy and to teach me the ropes in my new home, and it’s recommended that I meet other dogs before going home together, to make sure we’re a good match. I need a home without cats, please, and with children over the age of at least 6, as my play can sometimes get rowdy when I’m excited. Mostly, I hope to find a home with kind people who love to spend time with me as I learn all about life as a family dog.

I’ve been through more change and instability in my life than most dogs will face in a lifetime. But I never let my circumstances get me down. I never have a bad day. My sweet, happy, goofy spirit comes shining through in everything I do. I’ll keep you laughing every day with my silly antics. And I will be so grateful when I finally land in my forever home. I will spend my life showing you how it feels to be loved unconditionally. That’s my specialty.

Love, Clef
