Clay's Story

Courtesy Post
Clay is an affectionate and sweet 3-year-old Basset Hound who truly believes he’s a 10-pound lap dog, despite his 65-pound body. He loves to cuddle, enjoys long walks, and has a goofy, playful personality. His favorite toys are anything cloth—he’ll proudly carry around towels and loves sneaking off with socks to hide them.
Clay is smart, routine-oriented, fully potty trained, and kennel trained. He does well around both dogs and cats and enjoys calm, structured environments.
Clay forms deep bonds with his primary caregiver, and this has led to some protective behavior toward his female owner. When she is present, Clay has shown hostility toward his male owner. This has included growling, lunging, but did not break the skin. Outside of those specific situations, Clay is gentle and loving.
Because of this, Clay would thrive best in a single-owner home or with an adopter experienced with protective or resource-guarding behaviors and one committed to training. In the right environment, Clay has the potential to be an incredibly devoted and affectionate companion.
No kids.
There is a $100 adoption fee.
Please email us at midwestdogrescuenetwork@gmail.com for an application.
