Clarence's Story

Meet Clarence!

Sometimes a dog just knows when he's found the right place-and Clarence apparently decided that The Ranch was exactly where he belonged!

***Foster Update 9/14***
So, we had a hectic weekend with lots of family in town. Clarence did amazing while I was home. He was very chill with a 14 month old patting him and tripping over him. He loved all the attention when we had 9 adults the 14 month old and a 2.5 yr old all here. He does much better on a harness & leash versus collar & leash on walks. He is also getting better about following commands regarding squirrels - "Leave it!" is very effective. He also loves a game of tug of war.

Clarence was a visitor to our rescue partners near Lake Chapala, Mexico, outside of Guadalajara. He spent several days hanging around The Ranch, casually scoping things out and getting to know the place. Apparently, he liked what he saw, because this handsome boy eventually decided to check himself in! And we're certainly glad he did. Clarence is a dapper, easygoing gentleman with a handsome tan coat, dark muzzle, adorably pointy "bat ears," and a wonderfully placid, affable personality. He is affectionate, friendly, and genuinely enjoys being around people. He's the kind of dog who seems perfectly content simply being wherever his people are. For a dog with an unknown background, Clarence is surprisingly good on leash. He happily trots along beside you, occasionally stopping to investigate an interesting smell or check out something that catches his attention before continuing on his way. He's relatively food-motivated, too, which should make him a fun and willing student as he learns his new routines and any new skills you'd like to teach him.

But Clarence isn't looking for a life of nonstop adventure. He also has a serious appreciation for the finer things in life-namely, being a couch potato with his people. A nice walk followed by some quality lounging time sounds pretty close to perfect to this guy. Clarence is very good with other dogs and seems to enjoy having canine companions around. He is, however, fairly reactive to cats, so we think he would be happiest in a cat-free home. With his affectionate personality, easygoing nature, handsome good looks, and those wonderfully silly ears, Clarence has a lot going for him. He may have wandered into The Ranch on his own, but now he's hoping to find the people who will make him feel like he's finally home.

This dapper guy just might be the one thing that's been missing from your life.
