We have a careful screening process that consists of reference checks, a veterinary referral, and a home visit ensuring that our furry friends stay in their forever homes for good. Our adoption fee ranges from $400-575 which includes spay/neuter, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, deworming and a microchip. Important Note for Adopters: While our rescue organization is based in and licensed out of Portland, Maine we are proud to serve a wider community as we have grown an have foster homes throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut. As such, we encourage potential adopters to be open to traveling up to 3 hours in each direction from Portland to meet and greet with their prospective furry family members.

The Grateful Dog Rescue is a non-profit, all volunteer dog rescue dedicated to saving the lives of dogs left in high kill shelters, and local surrenders of owners who no longer want their dogs.
