Chucky's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.CHUCKY is available!

Chucky is a special dog needing a special home. He is a handsome, active, five-year-old Golden Retriever that is not yet neutered, but AGR will have that done soon. Chucky is a playful dog that loves balls and fetch. He has never lived with other dogs or cats, and loves to be with people - but can be unpredictable and overly-protective if he feels threatened. He is very strong and not well leash-trained, but once he starts walking, he calms down.

Chucky requires very dog-savvy, experienced adopters with NO children and NO pets and who are willing to work patiently with him. He is fine with meeting other dogs socially, but he can be pushy with a “short fuse" if other dogs invade his space. Neutering may help that considerably. He has been placed on fluoxitene (doggie prozac) to see if that will help take the edge off his reactivity.

Chucky has been evaluated by two behaviorists who both feel there is a lot of potential there for Chucky to become a better canine citizen with the proper handling and professional training.

AGR will pay for a professional Board and Train program once an adopter is found who is able and willing to attend the required follow up lessons and follow all instructions. We believe Chucky is worth the effort, because 99.9% of the time he is such a terrific dog.

If you are interested in adopting this dog or any other available AGR dogs, and want to know more about the process, please click here. Note: WE DO NOT ADOPT OUTSIDE OF THE STATE OF ARIZONA. All potential fosters and adopters must fill out an application, pay an application fee and have a home visit in order to be considered for any dog. 5/13/26 10:26 PM

WE DO NOT ADOPT OUTSIDE OF THE STATE OF ARIZONA. If you are interested in adopting from Arizona Golden Rescue, please visit our webpage at http://www.arizonagoldenrescue.org/ and complete an Online Adoption Application to begin the process, or send an e-mail to info@arizonagoldenrescue.org if you have questions and wish to be contacted. Please note: it is the policy of AGR not to place a dog under 3 years of age or a shelter dog with a family that has children under 3 years of age. Once we receive your application, a home visit will be scheduled. When your home visit is approved, you will be placed on our waiting list. Our sole purpose is to find the perfect home for the dog as the dog always comes first. Prior to adoption, all AGR dogs are given a full vet exam, including valley fever and heartworm tests, brought up to date on all vaccinations, given a microchip, neutered or spayed, and treated for any medical problems.
