Chuckles 25C-44's Story

At the end of the day after the shelter is closed the photographer often walks the inner corridor and pauses briefly at each of the kennels and shares a kind word and a perfectly cooked hot dog treat with each of the occupants. When stopping at Chuckles residence, the human was impressed with the lightness that the treat was received and the friendly smile that was always shared. When the time arrived for Chuckles photo shoot, the walk to the park started with excited tugs on the leash but quickly resolved into a comfortably paced tempo. When we arrived, Chuckles patiently waited for the bandana tie and then, surprisingly didn’t dash off but waited for the human to initiate the park exploration. Chuckles’ fun-loving attitude and big smiles reminded the volunteers of a circus clown entertainer and his name was dutifully awarded. Chuckles showed his gentle nature as he came up from behind the human and almost imperceptibly touched his hand to say “I am here with you.” He enjoyed being close and peering out at the world through the human’s legs and didn’t seem to mind sharing the park with a duck squeaky but he did win the eye-to-eye stare down. Time spent with Chuckles will generate feelings of acceptance, camaraderie, confidence, cheerfulness, and laughter.
