Chocolate's Story
Chocolate is one of the sweetest pups you’ll ever meet. He came to Maine from a shelter in Texas, very shut down and unsure of the world. With patience, routine, and the help of my dogs, he’s made incredible progress in a short time.
In just two weeks, Chocolate has learned to sit, potty outside, and—most importantly—how to be a puppy. With a consistent routine and the confidence he gains from being around other dogs, he’s gone from hiding quietly in a corner to playing, barking, and engaging with his surroundings. A home with a routine and another calm and confident dog would be necessary to help Chocolate continue to come out of his shell. He is crate trained and loves playing with toys, especially squeaky toys. Chocolate does get nervous in the car and will drool when anxious, but we’ve been working on this with short, positive trips—like pup cup runs and visits to my work. He now happily jumps into the car and does well for rides up to about 15 minutes before the drooling starts. Chocolate is a gentle, loving pup who just needs patience, consistency, and the right environment to continue blossoming. A home where his adopter is home more often than not and one that has Shepherd experience is a bonus. He is estimated to be about four-months old and a Shepherd mix. He is here in Maine, in foster, and although he's had several approved applications, we are looking for the best fit for this sensitive soul.

If you think you might be interested in adopting Chocolate or just want to get pre-approved to adopt through us, please fill out an application on our website. Approvals are valid for one year and you will not have the waiting period of an application if you see a dog that you like! Approved adopters are placed on our email list for each transport and receive our Google slides that we send to all pre-approved adopters before posting on Petfinder and our social media and are eligible to attend our meet and greet events.
