Chiquita's Story

On Nov. 29, 2025 a badly injured 4 week old tan Pitbull puppy was brought to Northwood Animal Hospital as an emergency.

The owners think a chair fell on her. They found her screaming. She had not stopped screaming since the injury occurred.

Xray showed a fracture of her right humerus (big bone between shoulder and elbow). The owners ultimately felt it was best for her to relinquish her for the care she needed.

A cast usually doesn’t work well for humeral fractures as cast can’t prevent movement of the shoulder. But Chiquita was too little for a major surgery. Dr. Dean, her treating doctor, devised a cast that encompassed her leg and went around her chest. She hated it. But it worked. Her leg healed well.

Chiquita was a needy puppy-wanted to be held/cuddled or she would cry. It was hard to differentiate her pain cry and her pick me up cry. She was equally distressed in both circumstances.

Chiquita was close in age to a litter of puppies in the hospital at the same time (Twix’s). Chiquita settled when she was healed enough to stay with her adopted brothers and sisters. Even though she is much smaller than they are.

Chiquita is scheduled to be spayed, microchipped and is progressing through her puppy vaccines. She is ready to go to a home, hopefully with a healthy respect for chairs now.

Name: Chiquita
Gender: Female/on schedule for spay
Birthday: 11/01/25
Current Location: Northwood Animal Hospital
Minimum Adoption Donation: $150
