Chinook (Lady)'s Story

Meet Chinook 🌲🐾 — a sweet, expressive, adventure-loving girl with a big heart and a bigger personality

Chinook’s foster favourite thing about her? She is so sweet and friendly. She loves her people deeply and has a wonderfully expressive way of sharing how she feels — whether that’s excitement, curiosity, or the occasional opinion.

Chinook is happiest wherever you are. Inside or outside, she just wants to be part of the action. She’s grown to really appreciate indoor life and can now settle beautifully in the houseand loves to cuddle for hours at a time. While she still enjoys lots of outdoor time, being with her people is what matters most.

Her days are best filled with walks, play, fetch, and fun. Chinook is high energy when she plays and absolutely loves zoomies and active games. Chinook has a great give-and-take play style and would thrive with a confident, high-energy canine companion who enjoys full-contact play, furniture launches, and joyful chaos.

Chinook is house trained, responds well to training, and is eager to learn — she just has a lot of learning still ahead of her. She is crate trained and now happily uses her crate, sometimes even choosing it on her own at bedtime. She may still voice her displeasure at times, but it’s more about being separated from her people.

One important thing to know about Chinook is that change is hard for her. When moving to a new home or when people leave her vicinity, she can be very vocal as she adjusts. Expect complaints, protests, and big feelings at first — possibly for several days. With patience, routine, and reassurance, she does settle and continues to improve once she understands what’s expected of her. That said, she will likely always be a loud dog, so close-quarters living or noise-sensitive neighbors wouldn’t be a good fit.

Chinook loves kids but is best suited for a home with children 10+. She is gentle but still working on her manners and can get mouthy during play or accidentally bump into little ones when her excitement takes over.

She has met cats and may chase if given the opportunity, but she responds well to direction and redirection and has the potential to learn how to coexist with a confident, dog-savvy cat.

A fenced yard is a must for this girl, but supervision will still be required.

Overall, Chinook is a joyful, fun, affectionate dog who brings laughter, movement, and a whole lot of personality into the home. She’s looking for active, patient adopters who understand that transitions take time — and who will appreciate a loyal shadow with endless enthusiasm for life.

For the right family, Chinook will be an incredible companion. 💛

Current Foster Location: Maberly, ON.

It Takes A Village Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
Hopeful adopters must fill out an adoption application. All applications are screened and potential matches are contacted. Follow up questions are emailed. A phone call is set up to clarify any questions about the adoption process. At that point the fosters are provided the contact information for the potential adopters. They set up a meet and greet at the fosters home. During the meet the foster will tell the potential adopter the good, the bad. and the ugly about the dog... we want total transparency in order to have an open and successful adoption. After the meet we ask the fosters and the adopters their thoughts. If the adopter would like to proceed, their references are checked and a virtual home visit is conducted. If the adoptable dog has any sort of behavioural or medical issues a plan to address the issue would be required before adoption could proceed. If all is good then the adoption contract is sent out to be signed and returned along with the adoption fee. The foster is given the green light to arrange pick up.
