Chido's Story
Chido was recently abandoned by his owner, and all the sudden changes have been a lot for him to process. It’s heartbreaking for such a loyal companion. Despite everything, he remains a sweet boy who truly just wants a person of his own.
Chido may be small, but he’s mighty and knows what he likes — and he’s not shy about letting you know when something (or someone) isn’t his favorite. He gives clears signals and will growl when uncomfortable. He does best with a confident, calm person who can take the lead, because deep down, Chido doesn’t want to be the boss — he just wants to feel safe and loved.

Energy Level?
low

House trained?
Yes.

Describe how they are on leash?
He's a good little walker. He gets excited when sees strangers and may let out a bark to remind them that size doesn't matter.

Describe how they are with other dogs?
He is doing well with the dogs in his foster home. However, he hasn't learned to share his toys and he needs privacy when he eats. He does not like the other dogs to be around his food.

Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they? He is 100% cat friendly. He coexists with the resident cat and has never chased the cat.

Commands they know? He is working on "sit"

What are their favorite things? Chido loves squeeky toys and treat, although he needs to shave off a pound.

What do they need to work on? He need help greeting strangers. He gets defensive and growls with new people. Slow intros is best.

How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone? He is fine being left alone. He has been left up to 4 hours so far.

Where do they sleep? During the day, he sleeps on a dog bed. At night he sleeps in his crate.
What is their ideal home?
Chido would thrive in a calm, patient home with an adopter who understands the loyalty and sensitivity of a dog who’s been let down before. He seems used to having his own person all to himself and would love to be someone’s devoted companion.

His ideal person will be patient and willing to go the extra mile to help him feel safe and comfortable around new people. With time, consistency, and gentle guidance, Chido will build trust with others and show his affectionate, loyal side. He’d do best in a quiet home without too much commotion, where his person can provide structure, reassurance, and lots of love and where he can be the king.
