Chickie's Story

Meet Chickie!

Meet this beautiful girl, Chickie! She is approximately 2.5–3.5 months old and currently weighs around 20–25 lbs. We can’t say for certain how big she will be once fully grown, but based on her current age and size, we suspect she will be a larger dog, likely 50+ lbs. Without a DNA test, we cannot confirm Chickie’s breed, but we think she is a Shepherd mix. Breed labels are always our best guess, especially with young rescue dogs.

Chickie was found wandering and eventually picked up by animal control. Sadly, no one ever came to claim her, and she has been waiting at the shelter since September for someone to give her a chance. Despite her uncertain beginning, Chickie is a happy young pup with so much potential. She is still learning about the world and will need a patient, dedicated family to help her transition from shelter life into a home. Her adopter should be prepared to continue working on potty training, basic obedience, socialization, household manners, and establishing a consistent routine.

Like most puppies her age, Chickie has a playful personality and plenty of youthful energy. She would thrive with a family willing to keep her physically and mentally stimulated while teaching her everything she needs to become a well-rounded adult dog. Chickie loves other dogs and would likely do wonderfully with a canine companion who can play with her and help show her the ropes. Another dog is not required, though, and she could also thrive as the only dog with a family committed to giving her plenty of attention and socialization.

She has not been formally tested with cats, so we cannot guarantee feline compatibility. However, given her young age, a home with a cat may be considered with an adopter who understands the importance of slow, controlled introductions and proper management. Chickie has also had limited exposure to children while living in the shelter. Because she is a growing puppy who may eventually be 50+ lbs and is still learning her manners, older, respectful children who are comfortable around the energy of a young dog may be the best fit.

We would love to see Chickie in a home with access to a yard, ideally one that is securely fenced, where she has room to safely play and explore. A fenced yard is not a requirement, however. Apartments and condos may also be considered on a case-by-case basis as long as her adopter is prepared to consistently meet her exercise, training, and enrichment needs.

Most importantly, Chickie needs someone who understands that adopting a puppy means making a commitment not only to the adorable puppy she is today, but also to the adult dog she will become. With patience, structure, training, and plenty of love, we think this sweet girl has everything she needs to become an incredible lifelong companion.

The shelter where Chickie is currently staying is severely overcrowded, and dogs like her face uncertain futures simply because there is not enough space. Chickie is spending precious weeks of her puppyhood waiting. We would love to see her leave shelter life behind and begin growing up where she belongs—in a loving home of her own.

Health:
Chickie is spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and on monthly preventatives. She is currently too young for heartworm testing.

Important Information:
All of our dogs, including Chickie, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to their adopters once the adoption is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee. Please note that adopters will not be able to meet Chickie in person prior to committing, as transport occurs after the adoption has been finalized.

Breed labels are educated guesses based on appearance and available shelter or medical records. We encourage adopters to focus on each dog’s individual personality, needs, and long-term compatibility rather than breed alone.

MA License #479
