Chicka (now Willow)'s Story

Chicka is a darling 9-year-old, 25-pound Terrier blend with a heart full of love for the people she trusts. This stylish little lady is looking for a calm, predictable home where she can relax, feel secure, and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

Once Chicka gets to know you, her affectionate personality shines. She loves cuddling with her favorite people, happily accepts treats, and enjoys squeaky toys that bring out her playful side. She is also house trained, crate trained, has excellent leash manners, and rides beautifully in the car, making her an easy companion both at home and on outings.

Chicka prefers a quieter lifestyle. Loud noises like thunderstorms, fireworks, or raised voices can make her anxious, so she'll thrive with patient people who understand her need for reassurance. While she may bark when unfamiliar people arrive or when she spots strangers on a walk, a warm greeting and a chance to say hello quickly help her feel comfortable.

Her ideal home is one with women only, where she can settle into a consistent routine. Chicka would also prefer to be the only dog in the home, as she likes being the center of attention and can be a bit bossy during playtime. Because young children can make her feel uneasy, she'll do best in a home without children or visiting grandchildren 10 years old or younger.

If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who will reward your patience with endless affection and devotion, Chicka is ready to become your very best friend. She may take a little time to feel at home, but once she does, you'll have a faithful companion for years to come.

To get started in the process of meeting Chicka, please visit https://azfriends.org/testing/adopt.html to complete an adoption consultation form, and then come by the Adoption Center to meet with one of our adoption counselors.

No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form - this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the animal. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)!

Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In the event there is more than one home interested in the same animal, a lottery may be held that will include all families that are at our adoption center at the time we open the day the animal becomes available. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member.

Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).
