She spent a short time in a shelter before getting her freedom ride north to Illinois and into a loving foster home.

During her time on the streets, Chia suffered from fly strike, leaving scars on her ears. Thankfully, she has healed, and they don’t seem to bother her.

When Chia first arrived at her foster home, she was incredibly scared. Every household noise made her jump or run to hide. She even barked at the television because it was so unfamiliar to her. She spent much of her first days sleeping and simply decompressing.

Luckily, Chia has three confident canine foster siblings who have become her teachers and cheerleaders. By watching them, she has learned so much! She has discovered that household noises aren’t scary, that going outside in the rain is okay, and that walking out the door on a leash means she gets to come safely home again.

Her foster family has also been gently introducing her to new experiences, including trips to the pet store. While Chia can still initially go into flight mode when something feels unfamiliar, she is becoming braver and more relaxed with every experience. Her confidence is growing, one little victory at a time.

Chia isn’t a fan of getting into the car, but once she’s buckled in, she settles down and happily rides along while looking out the window.

She is doing amazing with potty training, with only an occasional accident. She stays clean and comfortable in her crate while her foster mom is at work and sleeps peacefully in her crate for about 8 hours overnight.

Chia is food motivated, eager to learn, and ready to continue building her confidence with a family willing to be patient and celebrate her progress.

Chia has shown some curiosity toward sniffing the resident cat. But overall, is not too concerned with him.

She would do wonderfully with another confident, friendly dog who can help show her the ropes. Her ideal family will understand that Chia may need a little time to feel comfortable in new situations—but once she trusts you, you’ll get to watch this beautiful girl continue to come out of her shell.

Chia has already come such a long way. Now she just needs a family who will give her the time, patience, love, and security she deserves.

Chia is ready for her forever home. Could you be the person who shows her just how wonderful life can be?

Interested in adopting?
