Chi Chi's Story

Say Hi to ChiChi!

4 years old | 11 lbs | Chihuahua mix | From the Manhattan ACC

This irresistible little guy came to us from the local Manhattan ACC and is now searching for his forever home — one that truly appreciates the magic (and mischief) of a Chihuahua.

ChiChi has firm boundaries with strangers, but once you're in his circle, you're in. With patience and respect, he warms up and proudly shows off his phenomenal personality. He's goofy, expressive, and incredibly affectionate once bonded. He loves a good snuggle, enthusiastic hand wrestling sessions, tug-of-war, and anything interactive and engaging.

While in our care, ChiChi has been fully committed to his personal growth journey He underwent a left eye enucleation and cryptorchid neuter (1/8) and has recovered beautifully. After surgery, he headed to board & train to build the skills he'll need to thrive in his forever home. He is very food motivated, loves to work, and genuinely enjoys training sessions. Brain games? Yes please.

ChiChi is an energetic, outdoorsy pup who thrives on:
• Long walks and time outside
• Playing ball and structured play
• Mental enrichment and learning new skills

Now let's talk personality — because ChiChi has plenty of it. He is confident, pushy, and yes... a little bratty. If boundaries aren't clear, he will absolutely try to run the show. Structure isn't optional for ChiChi — it's what helps him feel secure and succeed. He does best with:

• Clear, consistent rules
• Staying off furniture
• A drag leash indoors to reinforce boundaries
• An experienced owner who won't be outsmarted by 11 pounds of determination

ChiChi can be vocal when he's excited or wants something, and he appreciates having his space respected as he continues building trust. He will need to be the only dog in the home and would do best in an adult-only household with someone experienced in managing strong-willed small dogs.

This is not a “carry him everywhere and treat him like a baby” Chihuahua. This is a Chihuahua for a true Chihuahua lover — someone who understands their spice, their sensitivity, their intelligence, and their need for leadership.

With structure, patience, and consistency, ChiChi is incredibly rewarding. He bonds deeply, loves hard, plays enthusiastically, and thrives when given thoughtful guidance.

If you're active, experienced, and appreciate a dog with personality, humor, and a little edge — ChiChi might just be your perfect match.

Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

To apply for Chi Chi, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available.

Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.

Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org
