Chevy's Story

From Ditch to Dream: Meet Chevy a true story of the underdog.
Chevy, approximately 2 years old, Carolina Shepherd Mix, pocket sized at 45 lbs, with love to give, just needs time & patience. He’s a dog’s dog and will require a furry buddy to cling to.

Some stories start with a wagging tail and warm bed. Chevy’s didn’t.
Chevy was found clinging to life in a ditch, floodwaters rising around his fragile body. His tiny frame was covered in mange so severe that no one could tell what kind of dog he was, or what color fur lay beneath the raw, inflamed skin. He didn’t even lift his head. He was too tired, too scared, and too broken.
But the world hadn’t given up on Chevy just yet.

A group of rescuers came together — strangers who refused to look away. He was trapped and rushed to a vet clinic, where his new life began. It wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t cozy. But it was safe.

For the first time, Chevy had clean water, a soft voice, and gentle hands. Slowly, his skin began to heal. His belly started to fill. And beneath the scars, a beautiful liver-colored coat began to grow. Most importantly, Chevy started to believe that maybe — just maybe — humans weren’t so bad after all.

But life in a kennel wasn’t what Chevy needed. He needed more than safety. He needed healing — the kind that comes from play, patience, and love. So once again, a team gathered to give Chevy the next chapter he deserved.
He left the clinic in fear, unsure if he was being rescued or abandoned again. But this time, he landed in the care of his trainer — who saw past the fear and into the soul of a dog who wanted so desperately to be loved.
The early days at “camp” were hard. Chevy was overwhelmed by the noise, the smells, and most of all — the people.

?? Skip to the good part ?? Fast forward six months, and you’d hardly recognize him.
Today, Chevy plays in the rain. He splashes in the doggy pool. He zips around the yard with his dog friends, and when he’s tired, he finds the nearest human lap to curl into. His transformation is nothing short of miraculous. Where there was once fear, there is now light.
But Chevy’s journey isn’t over yet.
?
He’s ready for the “Gotcha” Chapter, but he needs one filled with understanding. Chevy thrives when he has a confident dog buddy by his side to show him the ropes. He finds courage on walks when his furry friend is beside him. He loves his routine and gets a little overwhelmed when things shift too suddenly — so patience is key.

Chevy is neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccines. He’s kennel trained. Potty trained. A gentle, silly soul who’s finally discovering the joy of being a dog.

? Chevy’s Dream Home:
A fenced yard to zoom and explore
A dog buddy to learn from and lean on
Patient, loving humans who understand that healing isn’t always linear

Chevy may have been left to die, but he fought to live — and now, he’s waiting to share that second chance with someone who believes in underdogs, too.

If you think that someone might be you, Chevy is ready. ?
Adoption application: https://form.jotform.com/CLMR/TXAdoptApp
Scroll to see his progress photos (warning they can be triggering ? )
