When he first arrived at the shelter, he was in very rough shape, but thanks to the incredible care of the shelter staff— who cleaned him up, gave him a much-needed dental, and placed him in a loving temporary foster home— Chevy got the second chance he deserved. He thrived alongside three other dogs, showing everyone just how much life and love he still had to give. The shelter team knew this special boy deserved the very best, so they asked DPS to help find him a home where he will be cherished for the rest of his days.

Daily Life with Chevy
Chevy has settled beautifully into a comfortable routine and has mastered the art of cozy living. He happily sleeps in bed through the night— usually right at the top, close to his person— and will stay snoozing until it’s time to start the day. In the morning, he may hop up to go outside for a quick potty break, then politely ask to be lifted back onto the bed for a few more minutes of snuggles. Once everyone is officially up, he’s ready to join the rest of the household animals for their morning treat ritual. Chevy is a smart little guy who knows exactly what comes next— and he’ll grab his treat and trot off to enjoy it in peace.

Five days a week, Chevy gets to accompany his foster to work, and he takes his job as office companion very seriously. He knows that when the leash goes on, it’s time for a short walk and then a car ride. He can jump into the car on his own and confidently claims the front passenger seat as his spot. During the workday, he relaxes quietly in his bed and keeps an eye on the office happenings.

Personality & Temperament
Chevy is a loving, affectionate little dog who enjoys being close to his person but is not overly demanding. He has grown more confident with time and has truly made himself at home. While he may have followed his foster around more in the beginning, he now happily relaxes in his favorite dog bed or settles next to his person on the couch once he’s invited up. He especially enjoys cuddling—if you cradle him in your arms and give him belly rubs, he’ll relax completely and even let out the sweetest little groans of contentment.

He’s also a curious observer of the world and enjoys people-watching from the window. Chevy can be playful when the mood strikes— he gets cheerful zoomies in the morning and after work and loves carrying around his favorite triangle-shaped toy for a game of fetch. But he’s just as happy curling up for a nap beside you on a quiet afternoon.

Social Life
Chevy lives peacefully with multiple dogs, a cat, and even foster kittens, and he has shown no aggression toward them. He adjusted to his canine housemates within a day and is often used to help evaluate other dogs at the shelter because of his steady nature. He may bark when he first sees another animal on a walk, but once he gets closer, he is typically just curious and wants to investigate.

He has met a few children and accepted gentle pets, though most of his experience has been with adults. He tends to warm up quickly to women and can be more cautious around men at first. With patience, kind voices, and a few tasty treats, he continues to build confidence and trust.

Training & Manners
Chevy is doggy-door trained and learned quickly how to use it. He has had very few accidents in the home and understands his routine well. He rides nicely in the car, settles calmly during the day, and sleeps soundly through the night.

He does have a few habits that will benefit from continued guidance. Like many food-loving pups, he can be tempted to check out another dog’s bowl after finishing his own, so supervised mealtimes are recommended. He also has some mild barrier frustration and may bark when he hears activity behind a closed door, but he relaxes quickly once he can see what’s going on.

Grooming & Veterinary Care
Because Chevy arrived severely matted in the past, grooming can still be a little stressful for him. He will do best with a patient, experienced groomer who understands sensitive dogs and can move at his pace. He may also need pre-medication for veterinary visits, as those experiences can make him nervous. With time and trust, he continues to show improvement and tolerance for handling.

Why We Love Chevy
Chevy is the definition of a comeback story— a small dog who endured a tough start but never lost his gentle spirit. He is affectionate, loyal, and full of personality, from his eager anticipation of dinner to the adorable little groans he makes when he’s being loved on. More than anything, Chevy wants a person to call his own— a safe place where he can feel secure, cherished, and part of the family.

If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will happily share your bed, ride shotgun in the car, and lean into you for comfort and affection, Chevy may be your perfect match.
