Penny's Story

Penny was found on the side of the road by a Good Samaritan who took her to an emergency vet clinic. They determined that she had been in a dog fight and then hit by a car. That's a guess, of course, and thank goodness dogs look to the future, not the past. Penny has had limited training although she walks fairly well on a leash. She has a spotty record with other dogs; she gets along with some and with others -NOT. She can not be around cats. She doesn't really know how to play and we think has had limited social interaction. If you sit out with her and coo at her "Cherry, what a good girl you are" that small amount of attention sends her into zoomies because she just doesn't know what to do with that affection. After about 2-3 zoom circles, she lands back in front of you waiting for another compliment "Penny, you are the sweetest girl" which once again sends her into zoomies. If you have the patience to train her, she is smart and picks up quickly. She will need training to be comfortable in a social setting and you will need to realize that you will basically be starting from ground zero. She is a strong, stubborn girl but wants to be with you doing whatever you are doing. Outside, she sprawls on the ground with her legs splayed out behind her. She is curious as all get-out. No small children because we do not know her history with kids. Older kids probably OK.

The adoption fee is $300 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, de-worming, current flea treatment, current vaccines for their age, and a vet exam. Northwest Animal Companions is an all-volunteer, non-profit foster-home based rescue. 100% of your adoption fee goes to provide for the medical and physical needs of the pets in our care.

Please head to our website to fill out an application prior to sending an inquiry or asking to set up a meeting. (See application at https://www.nwac-oregon.org/dog-application). Once your adoption application is approved, we will contact you to put you in touch with the foster family and volunteer veterinarian to ask any questions and then an in person meeting.
